I was wondering if anyone has a governor out of a monte carlo 200r4, or one out of a 442, or a grand national? if not, does anyone have any specs on grinding the weights down to make the trans shift differntly? or is there a way to adjust the governor?

to stress this before people only read the first few posts of that link, COMPLETELY IGNORE the f%Cking idiots saying to adjust the TV cable. that's how the 200-4r got a bad rep. you have to set the TV cable according to the directions. and that's it.

The only issue that I have with modifying the governor is that it is a "trial & error" process for the most part....

Most of the stock 200-4r govs have a 1-2 shift of ~3k rpm.

I know that the GN gov shifts around 5K and is an easy swap... These are just my thoughts on the issue. If 5k is a good shift point for your engine, just swap the gov with a 442 or GN gov, else you'll need to tweak until you get the desired shift point.

yeah, my tv cable is hooked up right and ajusted right and all the right angles and brackets, it just shifts at very low rpms at wot and im under the understanding the governor controls that, 1 to 2 is at about 3000 to 3500 rpms 2-3 is at about 4500 to 5000 rpms and 3 to 4 is about the same, a little higher. i just dont like how low my first gear is

I remember reading somewhere that the 442, GN, GNX and Monte Carlo SS had different governors, with shift points ranging from somewhere around 4200RPM all the way up to the GMX's 5000RPM. If that's true, it's just a matter of finding your engine's powerband and hunting down the right governor.

I'm not an expert here but I have done basic "upgrades" in this area. I've installed shift kits and governors before and this is where my data comes from... I found that it's a combination of things that cntrl the shft points but the two things that make the biggest differnce are the governor and the 2-3 shift springs in the v.b..
