in OK: (https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...&ll=37.00119419201307,-94.73581075186769&z=14) The Baxter Springs to Claremore section.
  • go N on 66 from the Blue Whale (or wherever we meet)
  • Continue N on 66 through Claremore, Foyil, Chelsea, White Oak to Vinita
  • go E on 60/69 in Vinita. If I remember its pretty obvious.
  • Follow 60/69 N a few miles outside Vinita, highway make a left turn.
  • Continue through Afton, and continue on 69/59 to Miami.
  • Left turn N on 69 in Miami to Commerce.
  • Exit N into Commerce, turn right at the Dairy King until intersects w/ 69.
  • Turn left on 69.
  • US69 will continue on N, GO EAST/Straight on 69 Alternate.
  • Continue thru Quapaw
in KS: (https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...&ll=37.08195753946295,-94.62066004585267&z=16)
  • Continue on ALT 69.
  • ** In Baxter Springs the map has a little detour around the backside of a strip mall and then reconnects again. No idea what this is or if it matters. Right on W 30th St., follow the look around to Roberts rd. and Right again on US69 ALT.
  • ** Optional: On the N side of Baxter Springs, Turn Left on W 3rd and follow it around until it becomes Willow Ave. Continue on Willow, and it will become Beasley Rd. Then reconnect to ALT 69. This goes past "Field of Dreams" stadium and the "Rainbow Bridge"... . Otherwise just stay on ALT 69.
  • Continue ALT 69 thru Riverton to Galena.
  • in Galena turn Left, N on Main St.
  • Turn Right on Front St. to MO.
in MO: (https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...ll=37.246676185875366,-93.26992760877306&z=16) Springfield to Galena section.
  • Continue to W 7th, Turn Left (E) into Central City and on into Joplin.
  • in Joplin, turn Left (N) on Main Str.
  • turn Right E) onto 2nd/Broadway
  • follow Broadway to N. St. Louis, Turn Left (E)
  • turn Right on Euclid Ave.
  • turn right on Utica St.
  • turn Left on Florida Ave.
  • turn Right on Zora St.
  • turn Left on 49 ALT aka Rangeline Rd.
  • go N on Rangeline Rd.
  • ** OPTIONAL: The map has a small detour, turn right on 14th St., Left on Jefferosn, Left on 13th, and then right again on to Rangeline. Can't tell what's there... *shrug* Maybe its just part of the old road or something. I dunno
  • turn Right (E) on Broadway St. / Rte 66
  • turn Left (N) on Webb Ave.
  • turn Right (E) on Rte. 66 and follow Rte 66/Main Str. thru Carterville
  • turn Left (N) on Pine St.
  • turn Right (E) on "Old 66 Blvd" for several miles
  • Turn Right and cross ALT 49. Just past 187. If you wind up on Index Rd. you went too far.
  • Continue on "Old 66 Blvd" thru Brooklyn Heights, past Camp Mi Casa and 66 Drive In Theatre
  • Merge onto Oak St. in Carthage and continue
  • Turn Left onto Garrison Ave.
  • Turn right onto Central Ave/66
  • turn left on 96 / Rte 66. Central Ave. continues on straight.
  • turn Right on V / Old 66 Blvd
  • reconnect w/ 96 and continue for several miles
  • ** OPTIONAL: turn right on 2062. Looks like an old gas station(?) or something is out this way. turn Left (N) on Missouri N,
  • Turn Left on 266 (or just follow Missouri if you took the detour)
  • Stay on 266 into Springfield
  • Now at I-44, we can either take it NE and get really close to the fairgrounds, or stay on 266 into Springfield and follow old 66... to a point, then we have to turn N towards the fairgrounds. Basically city traffic and stoplights. We can decide what to do later..... assuming we stay on 266 though....
  • 266 becomes 44 ALT/BUS. Follow it.
  • Turn Right onto W. College
  • Continue through downtown Springfield
  • Turn Left onto Glenstone. From what I remember Glenstone was the "cruise" street, so you're liable to see people in lawn chairs watching the traffic...
  • Cross I-44 (or exit Glenstone if we go that route) and go N.
  • Turn left on McClernon
  • Turn Left on Fremont
  • Turn Right on Norton and follow Norton to the fairgrounds.
  • Where exactly we go at the fairgrounds is anyone's guess. It was pretty chaotic if I remember.
Feel free to comment/add/correct as needed. The MO directions get complicated because of the routing through Joplin and Springfield. I would recommend programming the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in your phone's GPS, if you get lost or separated, we can always meet you there. I will make sure everyone gets my cell phone, and other numbers that are running support in case its needed.

HAFROD and Texas82GP we should definitely coordinate support, who's got what, what we need as far as tools, spare parts etc.... My daughter and her boyfriend will be following as support, too so there's that. I even have a hitch mount tow bar somewhere should it come to that.

I'll make some printouts of the above if you forget or lose yours, but not an infinite amount, you should print the directions off.

I'm also just going to post this up here right now as a CYA, just in case. If you don't agree, just don't come. I could get everyone to sign waivers and crap (probably should technically) but lets just get it out in the open and over with.

If you come to this event, either Friday Night or Saturday, you agree not to hold ANY of the people involved in setting it up or running support responsible for literally ANYTHING bad that might happen to you or your car or passengers. Period. We'll do our best to help you out, but yeah. Have your tags and insurance and license up to date, etc. Try and have your ride as road-worthy as possible.

Also: Let's all behave responsibly. No burnouts or donuts or excessive <whatever> in anyone's parking lot, no driving insanely, rudely, or irresponsibly. Follow traffic laws. Drive the speed limit, more or less.... We're not racing anyone. Pick up after yourselves, etc. Cooperation will be much much appreciated.

OK, that's out of the way. WHOS READY.

I'm planning to bring:
  • A pretty comprehensive set of hand tools. Most of the stuff I have at the storage for working on the GP. Sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, utility knife, etc.
  • A floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • 1'x1' plywood scraps to place under the jack stands if working on dirt
  • Wood blocks (2x4's, 4x4's) for jacking/blocking
  • 20' 4GA jumper cables
  • Coveralls (for me)
  • 5 gallons of gas in a metal safety can
  • 4 gallons of distilled water
  • 2 heavy duty ratcheting straps
  • 4 way lug wrench
  • Flashlight with new batteries (Mag Lite that takes 4-5 D cells)
  • A few funnels (different sizes)
  • Paper towels
  • Duct Tape
  • Sealable drain pan
I have a fairly loose converter in my truck so it really isn't set up for towing. It doesn't have a hitch but we can use the ratcheting strap and see how it goes in a pinch. Can anyone recommend something else I should bring?

No donuts????? What are we eating for breakfast then?. Agreed, we must act like old people and drive the speed limit. No trophys for who can get there first. I'm bringing small block Chevy stuff= fuel pump(block mount), water pump, alternator, belt, and starter. Was going to bring water and stuff but looks like Jareds got that covered.

Jared, do you mind hauling my parts?

...

I'll have some of that in the 4-Runner as well. I've got a tire plug kit I carry around in there, but I do not have a portable air compressor or tank. The 4R has a 110V outlet in the back but I'm not sure how many amps it can actually take. I'll have a few spare belts for Olds, too. oh and ZIP TIES. Need to get more of those.

Apart from on the road, I'll also have a 10' square popup canopy, a couple extra chairs, small table, water, sunscreen, etc. Probably a couple of phone charger type batteries.... Bringing the GBF banners so I'll have rope or wire to tie them to the canopy... have a ton of camera gear because I'm making a damn video of this whole thing... I know there's going to be something I go CRAP WHERE IS IT.

Which reminds me.... at the show I'd like to get a one-on-one interview type of thing with you guys and your cars. Youtube that stuff, etc. if you don't want to that's cool too, but fair warning I might try to ambush you.

No, I don't mind. I should have plenty of room.
