I need some info. so I can put my 87 cutlass on 22" rims. I see many on Youtube that sit level and not jacked to the sky and the is the look I want.
Any info on rim width, backspace and offset that any one has used. I have 245/30/22 tires. Thanks .. I am new to the site.

9 OR 10" wide rims with a 5" backspace because how close they come to the wheel lip will be your problem to keep the tires under the car inside your wheel well. I'm running 20" wheels, 10.5 or 11" wide, not sure which, on my rear with 305 30 20s. They have a 5.5" backspace and I have to use 1/4" spacers to keep the tire from rubbing on the frame, On the outside, due to these very wide rims, I had to trim the wheel lip about a half inch. I installed air bags but I still get some contact some times going over dips at speed. Fronts are 255 35 20s on 8.5 or 9" rims.

4.5" wheel backspacing is usually the max for the rear without using any spacers and/or frame notching.

If you would have described that set-up to me without providing the pics, I would have said it would never work. But after seeing it, let me say, WELL DONE SIR!

You could get away with a 9" in the front but a 10 or 10.5 is about your limit in the rear. I have a billet rim which is a 8.5" 235/30 front tire and a 10" 275/25 rear tire.

Just dumb-luck. I bought the wheels used without a blemish or mark on them off another Grand National -- that's why I'm not sure if they are 10, 10.5, or 11" wide with 285 30s on the rear. (fronts are 8.5, I think) So that gave me a reference and going by the tire specs, I figured I could go up two sizes to the 305s.

I don't think anyone who is anal would have done what I did. But, I'm not anal.

I'm using 3/8" universal spacers, longer 2" wheel studs, of course, and had to trim my inner fender lip & wheel house molding about 1/4", and installed Airlift airbags, not to raise the body but just to stiffen up the suspension for less travel. Body sits about a half to three quarters of an inch above the tire, obviously can sit no lower, and thanks to the airbags only makes occasional very light contact but I have the inner lip covered with plastic molding (similar to door edge guard but wider and heavier) that protects the tire from any contact, damage, or scrape.

With these huge 305s, on 10" rims, I think that if you ordered custom rims with a 5.25" backspace, they would just fit with no modifications. Mine have a 5.5" backspace, so I had to use approx. 3/8" spacers to avoid frame contact.
