Did you find your answer ?
Surprised nobody responded to your question
Depending on backspace you could run a 255 section width without issue
Best thing to do is look at what others have done then measure your car yourself.

When I first bought my Regal I put some ARE 15 x 8 rims on with Cooper 235/60 fronts and 275/60 rears, I liked how those sizes looked on there so when I installed my 17 x 8.5 rims I went with Nittos 235/50 front and 275/50 rear to match the height and width of my 15" rims.
I have always liked bigger rear tires on my Gbody's.

I have a relatively odd size on my Year One 17x8's. A Nitto 255/50R17. I like them. They are on the black car, but I don't have a pic yet. I have 245/45R17 on the 17x8 on the silver car. Both look great, the black car having a little bit more sidewall (dia.) than the silver car.

I have Y1 ralleys on my 2+2

17*8 front with 245/45/17
17*9 rear 275/40/17

You can put a 275 on a 8" wheel but it's better to stay at 255.

Honestly a 255/45 would be my ideal. A 245/45 is a bit short (25.5"ish) in my opinion. A 255/45 is 26 and a 255/50 is 27". Stock 215/65/15 is 26".

How in the world did you get a 5" backspace with a 275 to not be buried against the frame?

I'm having a hell of a time with my 4.5" backspace wheels...the 255s that were on it had just kissed the frame acouple times on the left side, 275s were against it solidly.

I know axle centering on these cars sucks, but not really looking to have to fab a watts link for a "driver"

Because I'm a cheap idiot, I'm trying 1/2" spacer and long studs to fit the 275s I already have...I used to have 275s on 4" backspace rallys on another Malibu without frame issues, so ....

I really should just buy some 255s, but I have other projects that need attention as well.

Besides adjustable upper control arms to center the axle, nothing. I do have disks so maybe they are slightly thicker than drums? They were really close and lightly scuffed the frame on full flex but not enough to worry about.

I run a 1/4 spacer now because I run a 275 drag radial on a 15x10 5" BS and they did rub hard. That 1/4" is enough to clear.
