I am about to drop my 307 in my 86 cutlass and I don't know where to put my motor mount on the frame. The motor came out of an 87 Cadillac Brougham, so it uses the chevy motor mounts instead of the olds, and since i don't have the clamshell mounts for the olds motor, I decided to keep the chevy mounts. Where do I place the chevy mounts on the frame? Is there only one place where they will fit?

Also..... :blam: we didn't mark where all of the brackets for the belt driven accessories go... does any one have any pictures of their 307 out of the car that I can use for reference?

And on top of that... I can figure out what some of the parts in the intake manifold are...

1). I'm guessing is the PCV
2). I can't find anything in any of my parts that fits this hole. about an inch in diameter and threaded
3). some sort of vent? plastic part with a right angle for a vacumm line hook up, and a hex head on top
4). some sort of coolant sensor? it has a different plug than the normal coolant sensor that is next to the water jacket, and it is larger. i broke the plastic part of the clip on these, which is why i am replacing them.
5). same as #4

is there any difference between the egr setup on an 84 and an 87? i was given a diagram for an 84, but i can't find anything for the 87.

THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!! We're planning on dropping to motor in either tomorrow or thursday, so I'll post pictures of it when we're done. i'm working on a buget and i won't dare use the fuel tank that is in the car now on a fresh motor so it will be another month or so until we know if she runs.

Don't have a motor out, but I could try to get some clear shots that might work. Hopefully some will chime In and have pics for ya that you could go by.

AWESOME!!!!! THANK YOU!!

any other motor mounts but olds 307's out of olds cutlass g bodies wont fit in the cutlass. If you do use the chevy ones, they wont fit properly and will cause all sorts of problems in the future,so use g body olds 307 motor mounts only, even if you're upgrading to a 350,403,455 etc olds engines, these mounts will work for all the sbo and bbo engines if planning a swap in the future.Ok,now i always recommend using masking tape, duct tape,or painters tape and a pen when doing this sort of stuff, without marking sh*t with tape and a pen it only leads to trouble.I do know where most of these ports lead to.#1-vaccum port for the big plastic box that attaches to the manifold and also a bracket that bolts to the valve cover, rubber hose leads to one of the ports on the plastic black box.#2-i think its called a water bypass valve, its a big cylinder the has a thread on it thast screws into the manifold and has a nipple on the top of it that leads to one of the heater hoses.#3-It is another vaccum port,i think its for the black plastic box too,try looking at the diagram on the fan shroud for these vaccum lines,it has a full diagram on it and also try a chiltons manual too.#4-I think you guessed right on that one,i deleted it when i was gonna run an older carby on the 307,i used a brass plug from the hardware store, should be a coolant bypass sensor of some sort, the same goes for the one next to it,which is a coolant temp sensor,as also for #5,i took it out when i had coolant in the engine and it wouldnt stop flowing out, like niagra falls,so it should also be another sensor. The egr valve gaskets are the same, despite some years being different looking, should be able to run one from an 84.

I was told by joe_padavano

that the chevy mounts would work fine in the cutlass. (i should have made this more clear just in case i was being misleading) the 307 that was in the cadillac used chevy frame mounts; rubber incased in a metal housing about 3 inches wide. the 307 engine mounts are special for the D-bodies (i guess) and are made for the chevy frame mounts - they are not the same engine mount as is used in oldsmobiles. according to joe, if i put the chevy frame mounts in the same place as i would for droping in a small block chevy, then set the 307 in on top of them, then is should line up just fine. i am not mixing olds motor mounts with chevy frame mounts, the mounts i am using are all origonal to the engine and we're all chevy mounts, just modified at the factory for an olds engine

i am not trying to argue because i am no expert, but i just thought i would clear up some possibly misunderstood information.

btw, the pictures are GREAT!!!!

yea,i hope its works,i never knew that about the motor mounts though,i only know about the g body mounts

this is new to me as well, and i'm glad you said something, it never hurts to be cautious. i guess my car will have at least one thing about it that is unique

What engine did your Cutlass have in it before?

it came stock with a 307, and the previous civilian owner pulled it, i think he was going to put something bigger in there, but he left everything else in the car i.e. wireing harnesses, motor mounts for olds 307, ect... but the car is in great shape for iowa, and i knew someone who had a VERY solid VIN Code "Y" 307 in his Cadillac that I could get for cheap, so I snagged the car and the motor and now I'm trying to put it together. I live in SE Iowa and I don't have a truck, just a blazer and a buick, so finding an olds motor to drop in isn't easy. i can't travel very far to get one, and nobody around here drives and olds cars.
