307 HELP!

There is a guy about 15 miles away that has about 50 or 60 GM cars from the late 60's and early 70's sitting in his yard rusting away. He does sell parts off of them when people ask, problem is most people don't know how to get ahold of him... :twisted: I'm gonna give him a shout and see if he has a late 60's 455 he's willing to part ways with this summer... the only problem is getting the motor out of the car; the grass is as tall as the first story of the house that is also rotting away there.

and on that note.... since I am using the chevy/olds mounts in my car, if I were to drop a 455 into the car, it would not clear the AC/heater box... but, if i were to flip the engine mounts around backwards, it would move the engine forward 1 to 2 inches. if i install the electric cooling fans, and move the transmission mount forward (not with out modification of course) do you guys think the engine would clear that box? it's just a thought i'm throwing around and toying with, probably more work than it's worth...

That's not necessarily true. Depends on the valve covers.

So long as you're aware that the trans crossmember moves and the driveshaft would get longer (and weight moves from the rear wheels to the front, hurting traction), that's a clever idea.

I have some pic that I scanned for you that might help. There from my GM parts and illustration book that covers 82-84 olds B,C,E and G bodys cars and it has 2000+ pages. Its the GM binder that you see back then at the parts counter but having a hard time posting pic could use some help.

Well, the way svltrack showed me to upload pictures was first to upload them to photobucket or something, I have photobucket (it's free) so I use that. After you upload the picture to PhotoBucket, drag the mouse over it until the menu appears below the picture as shown below
howtopostgbodypic1.jpg

highlight the link titled "Direct Link" as shown in the above picture; right click on it and click "copy" in the drop down menu

open up the "reply to thread" page shwon below

click on the

button and this icon will appear in your text {

}

paste the link you previously copied between the Img icons as shown

I hope I can help you out here. I see you pretty much have the motor mounts covered. Here is the story with all of the holes in the intake manifold. Hole # 1 Vaccum advance to carb, Hole #2 Thermal heater switch ( huge T shaped switch with a vaccum line and a heater hose attached to it) Opens water to the heater after the engine is warm. Hole # 3 Accessory vaccum, usually T'd for any other vaccum accesories that require a manifold source. Hole #4 Vaccum advance thermal switch. This is a three or four port switch that controls the vacuum advance to the car. Does not allow advance to the distributor until the engine is warm, also controls any other accessories that should not be used until engine is warm. Hole #5 is for the A/c temp sensor. Sends a signal to the heater/AC system telling the system when the engine is warm. If you would like I can send you the pages from the service manual showing these connections. They vary from car to car depending on options and engine choice. For an Olds motor, the ones I listed should be correct. You can still buy these parts at an auto parts store if you know what to ask for. Let me know if you need more info...
