I am about to drop my 307 in my 86 cutlass and I don't know where to put my motor mount on the frame. The motor came out of an 87 Cadillac Brougham, so it uses the chevy motor mounts instead of the olds, and since i don't have the clamshell mounts for the olds motor, I decided to keep the chevy mounts. Where do I place the chevy mounts on the frame? Is there only one place where they will fit?

You should have left the 307 mounts on the frame, and gone down to your local parts store and bought new rubber motor mounts for the block side...

If they're still in place, I recommend going that route. Mostly because the frame side for the 307 is a permanent mount, not the kind that needs eventual replacement like the Chevy. They're kind of a b*tch, so that's why I'd rather leave it.

If you insist on running the Chevy mounts, they go here...

That's kind of what I was getting at as well.

2fit661ca,

Are the 307 mounts still there on the frame? If they are, then your making this entirely way to hard. As said, you could have just bought a pair of engine mounts from your local parts store for a 307 and been done with it. There's nothing special about that 307 that makes it a Caddy only engine as far as the motor mount bosses go on the side of the block. You just bolt the Olds specific mounts on the block with the rear two mounting holes.

well... i looked at what they were going for on ebay first and it was around 60 bucks for a pair...

checked o'reilly's.com just now....

$6.69 a piece

well.... just another learning expierience
I've already got the olds mounts out, and it wasn't horrible after we figured out what we were doing; just needed a wobble socket, a wrench, and a long extension.

and at least now i can drop in any motor i want, olds or chevy w/o swapping frame mounts

but thanks for the help guys, glad somebodys got my back

any other motor mounts but olds 307's out of olds cutlass g bodies wont fit in the cutlass. If you do use the chevy ones, they wont fit properly and will cause all sorts of problems in the future,

Actually, that's not correct. The Caddy Fleetwood brackets are like the ones used in the 403 Trans Ams - they are metal brackets that bolt to the Olds block and fit up with Chevy clamshell style frame mounts. You should be able to simply bolt the Chevy frame mounts at the stock location for a 305 and the 307 (or any other Olds motor) with the Caddy brackets should drop right in.

Now, if you do have the 307 frame mounts, it's probably cleaner to put the car back to the stock configuration (use Anchor P/N 2328 motor mounts), but the Chevy mounts and Caddy brackets should also work fine. They do have the advantage that you can get polyurethane Chevy frame mounts for added strength should you ever need it.

The one's you saw on Ebay would have been for the frame side I would imagine. Those typically run in the $40-$60 range because you don't replace them. As you found out, the ones that you actually replace can be had at any autoparts store for $5-$10.

So, today I installed the Chevy Frame Mounts into the car and they went in like a breeze!!!! i just used a compact 2lb magnet to line them up through the holes, and everything went together like a charm!!! Following that, we dropped the motor in and it fits great and sat perfectly into the mounts with no issues of space between or mount to mount angle... however.... the rear end of the motor does seem to be sitting lower than the front. I noticed that the chevy mounts sit far more towards the front of the motor than the olds do, and i do not have a transmission in the car yet.... will this be fixed when i instal the transmission? it's not off by much, but it is enough to where i did notice. the motor loooks to be sitting in exactly the right spot in the car, just leaning back a little bit. I will post pictures tomorrow!!! she looks GREAT!!!

He's using the 307 mounts from a Caddy, that run a special bracket and a Chevy mount...

Without a trans to support it, it will lean like you see, and will be cured when the trans is installed.
It's a good idea to support it somehow.
I like to use a broom stick across the frame rails and some screw drivers through the dowel pin holes in the block.
Works just as well holding up a trans when the motor is out as well.

The motor mount pictured below is what stock on my engine when pulled from the Cadillac. They are Oldsmobile motor mounts that were made for the Chevy frame mounts. These motor mounts will not fit the Olds frame mounts. Look at the picture of these Olds to Chevy mounts, then look at a picture of Olds to Olds mounts. I'm VERY sorry for the confusion, but this is what I had to work with, and in the long run, so long as it works, I'm glad I have Chevy frame mounts now, it will make swapping engines easier in the future, shall I choose to do so.

Chevy 307 I hope???
If not you need the Olds frame pads, they are much lower than the Chevy's which is probably causing your angle problem...

Apparently you missed this prior post:
