Also remember that light truck emissions systems are not legal in a car. If you buy a crate motor, you MAY be able to get away with equipping your car with a COMPLETE 305 Chevy emissions and computer/fuel/ignition setup from your year car. Depending on where you are in Cali, there should be U pull it yards available that can supply this stuff cheap.Expect to spend $200-300 on it if you pull it yourself, then expect to buy a complete exhaust system and a properly sized 3 way catalyst which should put you in full compliance. Note that having a 2 way cat is not legal on most 305 G bodies, so it won't be on your car ( 3 way has the air injection fitting that runs to the smog pump diverter valve). Also, you can modify the engine further so long as the parts have received a CARB EO number and the appropriate sticker is under the hood. BTW, this is in no way comprehensive, my car has never been smog tested since the swap was performed in 1997 as my state did away with it's inspection program shortly thereafter ( God Bless you, Jeb Bush!), so go talk to your appropriate state agency before doing the swap.
