Wow, I'm flattered. No track times, I doubt I do. I do have access to one of those G-Tech ?? dash computors that estimates horsepower and such. I might use that, I think it does quarter mile times also.
I really like this car, plus I can take along the fam.
I got some underhood shots with it a little cleaner.
If you HAVE to re-man a drive shaft for your 700R4, why not go to the bone yard and score a aluminum drive shaft out of a newer F body or even a 2WD truck?? If you have to cut and make anyways, it might as well be AL for less rotating mass. I am doing the same for my 68' camaro which has a curvy stock drive shaft.
You probebly already have this sorted out, but if you need TPI parts {fuel pumps, return lines, ect}, look in the Buick T types and GNs. The 3.8 fuel injected engine parts will work marvy on a 305/350 TPI and it bolts right in! I actually have EXTRA stainless prebent return lines from Classic Tube.FYI
Let me know if you ever want to sell your 8.5" rear end!LOL
I did some more measuring on my driveshaft today and it doesn't look like it's short more than an 1/8th after all so I'm going to let it go.
I have all the fuel line stuff done, but thanks for the info.
I'd also considered an aluminum drive shaft, but the guy that did mine reccomended steel. He said he's twisted AL shafts already in his cars.
I had the same problem when I was looking for pose_442's gallery. I thought it was a glitch, but never did have any luck finding it. When I opened the e-mail for your reply I got a "The topic you requested does not exist" message. Not sure what's wrong.
I found the galleries and could view mine, but still couldn't find pose-442's gallery.
click on "Photo Album" at he top of the page
click on member galleries at the top left
you should be looking at several galleries to choose from, there are tabs numbered 1-6 at the bottom. You can click those to toggle through pages of galleries. Mine was on page one when I found it.
Good luck
hum! Wonder what's up with that?! I'll see if I can't maybe upgrade coppermine and see if it fixes it. But if you start at the photo album home page, go into the member galleries link, and find him there, the pics show up fine. Not sure what's going on.
GP 403, I just checked out the link on your GP. Very cool, Olds 403, stick, two tone. Snow flake mags look good but 14s suck. Surprised you did not find a Pontiac motor for it. Is the 403 stock or built, do you have good gears in the rear and have you ever run it down the 1/4? How about mpg?

Thanks Vern, I've never run it on the track. I don't want to risk cratering the 7.5" rear, or doing something to the engine 😀 It's just a more-or-less stock '77 403 q-jet, never properly rebuilt 😳. Only change is the edelbrock intake and no emissions. To be honest I don't know what gears the rear has in it. I think I figured it up to be a 3. something at one point. If I ever get an 8.5" I'll let you know 😀
MPG... well, it runs about 3k rpm at 70mph (so figure the gear ratio up from that! 1:1 at the trans in 4th, 3.42?), I only get about 15 or so. A little better since I fixed the timing I think (the dist slipped and was waaay off), but haven't burned through a whole tank yet since then. Need to recalc. that one of these days.
The Olds went in since it was originally a 350 Olds Diesel/Auto, and all the acc. bolted up no problems.
Its fast enough 😀 torque-y thats for sure.... As for the wheels, eh, maybe one of these days I'll find a set of 15" f-bird wheels for it 😀
