350 vs 200-4r

3:42 and a 200r4 got me 26 mpg on the freeway last time I checked.

what speed were you traveling?.. the Grand National had a gov rating of 15/23 and a regal with a 307 with 200R4 is rated 16/23....although they don't list the rear end ratio for the 307

Rent, I was speaking with a friend who owns a shop and they do alot of work on GN's and he told me that your gas milage could be improved. I have to admit I was skeptical of 26 mpg so I apologize. He's thinking your probably still running a stock chip and in his brother's GN they had a performance chip that gave him 30 on the highway. The performance chip will increase the gas milage as the stock one allows more fuel. They raced that GN at the track so I know the chip increased performance as these guys went nuts to do anything to get a bit more power....

Nope, aftermarket chip. 🙂

My mpg would be better if I didn't leave a set of tire marks at every intersection...ha...

proof once again mileage and power could increase in many cars .... if we just kept the EPA out of our tailpipes - glad my car is now exempt.

im wanting to get a 200r4 for my elky which now has a 350/th350. last summer i got a 4.11 posi and i wanted to get more milage outta it without spending an arm and a leg. is there different 200r4's for non ccc cars? i wanna get one from the junkyard and get it rebuild to handel at least 400hp. what do you guys think? is it worth it? also i heard somewhere that the 350 and 200r4 have the same length drive shaft but id have to get a trans support for it farther back. anyother things i shoud be looking out for?

th350 and 200-4r use different crossmembers. What year is your El Camino? Also I do believe the 200-4r has a short driveshaft ... when in doubt snag both the crossmember and driveshaft from the donor car ... that and your trucklet doesn't have to be down while you put in the new U-joints ... that can be done ahead of the trans swap, be sitting there ready to install and save possible headaches. If you have dual exhuast you may want to look into an aftermarket crossmember like G-force.

ive heard lots of different opinions. but who from experience can tell me whats up. i have a 350 with a 350 turbo trans. i am seriously considering swapping for a 200-4r with a california performance transmission rebuild kit, and a b & m shift kit. in addition i am planning on going to a lim-slip posi w/ 3.73. the 200-4r and the rear axle are out of a 86 monte carlo ss...any opions?

I have a 200-4R with 3.73 posi, both out of an '85 MC in my '79 El Camino, with ZZ4 SB and Tuned Port Injection. Trans was rebuilt by a professional mechanic who knew what he was doing, with Trans-Go kit.

At 70 mph, I'm turning approx 2,700 rpm. I didn't build it for mileage and like the way it has great bottom end.

I guess it just depends on what you want the car to do.
