if you want to run a 350 transmission but like an overdrive gear then this may be an option. It weights about 30 lbs and the only mod you have to do is to shorten your driveshaft

ever price those things? By the time you've installed it .... the cost exceeds what I have in my engine rebuild. Far cheaper to have a 200-4r built right and put in.

for a 350 performance street it's $2,595.00 and that is why I put "this may be an option"...it may not be in you's or my budget but for others it may suit their needs.......on the other side it turns the 3 speed into a 6 speed transmission so it's not comparable to a 200 r4
:? Why not just go with a 700-R4 or a 4L60 E
I am running a 700 out of a 91 caprice police car, with a Gill Younger kit in it.
It has heaver clutch packs and a heavier case. with a 3:24 gear It runs
about 1800-1850 RPM at 75 MPH. I get about 20 mpg on the highway.
probably because the 700 and early/mid 4l60's have more issues than the early 200-4r's. or because the 200-4r has a better overdrive.
or that the 200 has less of a drop from 1st to 2nd. this argument has been hashed out many times on this site, i recommend you do a search. not that the issue has been settled  but you might be surprised at what you learn. the 200 is NOT the pos people say it is, and the 700 is not the great trans they say either. (sorry the th200 IS a POS, the 200-4r is not)
I have ran 2004R's and I just was not satisfied with them personally. The 700R4 on the other hand is a completely diffeent story. The 700R4 has a better first gear than the 2004R for performance and also has a better design than the 2004R. In my opinion get the 700R4 cut the drivesahft, relocate the crossmember and change your flexplate and enjoy. I sell probably 30 700r4's to 1 2004R. I get a lot of gentleman calling me with G body's that want to switch on a regular basis. It's really more in what your looking for though. I havent had a great experience with 2004Rs but that doesnt make them all bad. BTW the 2004R out of a Buick Grand National was built differently than a regular 2004R out of a Monte or ELKY. The parts for the grand national are different. If you would really like to know what they are I can scrounge up some info I had layin around on it for you. But to wrap things up with a 3.73 gear and a 700R4 you just can't beat it. I have run that combo numerous times in previous vehicles.
I think that compared to the 700r you can beat it.. The gear drop off from 1st to 2nd in the 700r is terrible. it goes from a screaming 3.06 to 1.63...... Thats bad as soon as you hit 2nd gear you feel like your going a whole lot of no where. where as the th350 and 2004r have a much closer gear spread, and the 2004r can be built up with out much effort and for around the same price as the 700r, not to mention, you can run a 4.30 gear and with the lock up converter just be cruising around in the low 2000's. This makes up for the gear difference in the 700r. Overdrive of the 2004r .64 overdrive of 700r4 .70 so with the lock converter on in the 700r you would be around 2600 rpm with a 26.5 inch tire diameter which I used as a base. No matter what you choose though you'll be happy with.
The ultra low first gear of the 700-R4 is best suited to get the load moving in a heavy pickup truck with an older weak 305 or 4.3 V6. A properly built 200-4R has it beat on every front for most performance gbodys. www.extremeautomatics.com has a 200-4R guaranteed to 10.90et & 500HP for $1,395. I had great long term success with the 200-4R in the two low 12 second street gbodys listed in my signature.
