Quick question, are these bars on a 3rd gen f-body? 4th gen? Just curious as there are a few 3rd gens in my local U-pull-ut.
Jim,
If I'm not mistaken, it was from the 3rd generation F-body. Mine came from a Pontiac Firebird GTA. They're also on IROC Camaros. Bring a handy caliper with you to make sure it's a 36mm and not a 34mm. Although, there's nothing wrong with a 34mm bar.

Copy that Jack, thank you sir!

There were a number of front sway bar sizes used on the 3rd Gen F-Bodies...
Here are the larger stock front bars used:
- 30mm Solid
- 32mm Solid
- 34mm Solid
- 34mm Hollow
- 36mm Solid (somewhat rare)
- 36mm Hollow
The difference between "Hollow" & "Solid" bars was not for performance but to save weight for CAFE standards.
Something to think about... solid bars are not affected by deterioration from internal rusting like hollow bars are... a concern folks should really think about in the Rust Belt, especially as the age of these parts increases.
"Hollow" bars are easily identified by the drain holes found on both sides, just before the pinched ends.

Notes:
Pontiac utilized each larger sway bar size before Chevrolet during most years of '82-92 Production and 'Birds came with better suspensions, (at all trim levels), than the Camaro... only the '89-'90 Iroc-Z and '91/92 Z-28 suspensions were on par with their WS6 T/A/Formula sibling, but Chevy got the Wonderbar and Pontiac didn't, giving the suspension edge to the Camaro for the last few years.
Iroc-Z and WS6/WS7 cars will always have the large bars (size depends on year/suspension level option).
The largest 4th Gen Stock F-Body front sway bar was 32mm... GM softened & redesigned/compromised the 4th Gen front suspension so those larger 3rd Gen sway bars are sought by 4th Gen owners as well.
Cars with originally with 15" or 16" alloy rims have the better suspensions, obviously 16's having the better versions.
15" versions typically have the "WS"-stamped 2.5-turn steering box.
16" versions have the "XH"-stamped 2.25-turn steering box.

thank you for that info, definitely good stuff to have when I am searching the junk yards.

Just to add to that... 16" rims/suspensions were only avail on the:
1984 15th Anniversary Trans Am (1500 made-Rare, 34 solid front/25 rear, have a number of rare parts worth saving on them $$$)
1985 (*most) -'90 Camaro IROC-Z (IROC-Z means IROC Racing Appearance Pkg with Z-28 Peformance Pkg)
1991-92 Camaro Z-28 (IROC-Chevy Racing Series Deal ended)
1985-86 Firebird S/E equipped with WS6/WS7 (Firebird S/E is Rare, and WS6/7 ones are Uber-Rare)
1985-92 Trans Am w/ WS6/WS7 only
1987-92 Firebird Formula WS6/WS7 only
1987-92 Trans Am GTA All

Also included in this are the handfuls of B4C Police Pursuit Package Camaros.

Start a thread if you haven't already. I'd be interested in seeing how it's done.

Ok so far the most successfull method I've heard of is this

1. 36mm Hollow F-Body sway bar
2. Use the F41 sway bar brackets and bolts because they are bigger than both the normal brackets and the aftermarket brackets.
You can use the original 36mm sway bar bushings and squish them into place, however is that what we really want? I suspect the answer is no.

3. Order bushings from Top Down Solutions http://www.top-downsolutions.com/greasa ... o-or-fireb
Choose the Bracket Delete option because you will be using the F41 brackets.
These bushings are the 35mm Energy suspension poly bushings that have been drilled out to 36mm.
Squishing them into place isn't going to be as big of a deal since you have the big brackets and there is some material removed from the bushing.
There's a few guys over at montecarloss.com that run autocross that are having success with this system.

I only found this because I've done one hell of a lot of searching over numerous G-Body sites. After hearing about guys ripping bolts out of the frame and the likes my search was on.
I have all the parts but I haven't mounted all this up yet because for the past three weeks I've been sick as a dog with what I suspect is pneumonia. Right now I'm a human mucus machine.
For some reason being out in the cold doesn't sound like a smart move right now.
