Crank, balancer and flex plate along with regular length studs dropped off. I talked to the machinists in the back. They do everything but balancing, told them the .0022 to .0025 rods and .0025 to .0028" mains. I told them, will let them know once Mark gets back with me for the balance weight.

Looking at better paint than Duplicolor, runny and not so durable. Pretty much all the gold engine paint in cans to thin and spray end up at $100 minimum. Anyone use the actual VHT engine enamel? None in town but can get it through Canadian Tire around $20 a can. I used their aluminum high temp header paint on the intake, pretty good. This stuff

I haven’t used their actual engine enamel because they don’t offer it in the correct Corporate Blue color that I need, but I’ve used several of their other lines. High temp, flameproof, caliper paint etc and they’re all high quality. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the engine enamel because I would expect it to be on par with the rest of their offerings.

I say just do it and give everyone here the feedback. Is it expensive? Yes, but pay once, cry once.

Benjamin Franklin once said “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

I believe that definitely applies here. Just my 2 cents.

I usually do VHT engine primer, Fusick bronze, then VHT clear. It's fairly fuel resistant (like when I stripped the bowl screw and tightened the float up too much), but Brakleen will still eat it.

I ended up buying 3 cans of Thornton's Gold spray paint. I remembered that I also needed 4 core rad pads and brackets, so all ordered through them.

I am not sure either Donovan. I am spending a fortune on this build, I want something better than Duplicolor. I will be blasting everything. I am pulling the 73 "Oldsmobile" valve covers Sunday and getting them stripped. If I don't like the Thornton copy of Gold, the VHT Gold Flake will get the nod, very bright.

I agree the Fusick doesn't cut it. Is the engine pictured the VHT gold flake?

Yes. I am going to do a test spot and see how I like the Thornton. This motor doesn't need to be over the top. Just a nice, mild mannered 358 with 350 HP and 400 ft/lbs of torque😍

I used their black and low gloss clear on my 4L80E. I really like VHT products.

Edit - I used the primer first. Nearly two years and 24k miles later it looks the same. No adhesion problems.
