I'm being serious :!:

If you see titles and such going for $500 or more, why wouldn't you atleast go buy some rotted out car (with the title) and sell something off the car to make a little money back

im amazed how you still think after reading all the comments its no big deal to swap vin #'s .... :blam:

dont really matter, the shell just sold for 500 bucks and i can assure you that the newer owner is not keeping the shell.

so i guess the vin and title is worth 500 bucks to the right person

i also read threads that tell me that i shouldnt put a chevy motor in my olds. a point i brought up before was speedometer clusters, from what i read it is tampering with milage and is also considered a federal offence!

this whole time all i have been trying to do is save a rare car from being gone forever, hopefully the new owner does something decent with it

yea im sure everyone reading this post knows exactly what you wanted to do with the title and tag :wtf:

Did anyone read the ORIGINAL post? I can't imagine any crime is taking place until you would attempt to put the VIN Plate into a different car…Is it illegal to scrap a car & save the firewall//dash/vin plate?? I would save it & the Title in a heartbeat…EVERYTIME…especially if it were a rare colectable car…Id save an 80s 442 vin & title EVEN if its only value was as a piece of memorabilia… remind me not to start a thread about running G.Bodies without Catalytic converters…Im sure someone would shed a tear…

“......Did anyone read the ORIGINAL post? I can't imagine any crime is taking place until you would attempt to put the VIN Plate into a different ca......”

I read it fader, did you however read his second post in this topic.

“......i have a couple reasons, one my 442 i own is not even in my name because of a out of state title and needs to be inspected which means it has to be driven there under its own power with running motor, seat belts and that stuff, i just got it running and having possible transmission issues, its a real 86 442 that i bought as a rolling shell, no interior, no motor adn i brought it back to life. this to me is a back up if there is a title issue on mine. the other option is i can hang onto it and if i come across another 442/44c parts car that has title issues or no title i can have a clean title rather then a branded one if i have to apply for a salvage title......”

There is a reason for VINs, and laws against changing them (and also a reason for “hidden” VINs located in other places on the car). G Bodies are still very popular as such are still a target of car thieves. I did a quick count of stolen Oldsmobile G Bodies in the stolen section of this site and came up with a total of 13 (and face it there have been far more stolen than are listed on this site).

I’ll admit I have bought cars without a title or a problem title a couple of times over the years (and passed on many more). I always went into it with my eyes open however, I never paid more than I was willing to lose if the car came up stolen and I never started a build until I had a legal, valid title in my name.

Nice…I suppose that "everyone reading this post knows exactly what I would do with the title & tag" as well ……If we were on a Different forum talking about saving the vin/title to a 1968 Cutlass 442, for Non-Fraudulent purposes, Almost every Oldsmobile Lover would be on board…Not the case tho, we are on G.Body Forum… I didn't read anywhere in the thread any mention of taking a regular cutlass & attempting to pass it off as a 442 clone with a false VIN # & attempting to sell it under false pretenses…I suppose Everyone that responded to this would simply Throw Away a title/vin to a Grand National, Hurst Olds, Monte SS Aerocoupe, Or any other Limited Production G.Body…Better yet, you would Burn that same title in your fire place Prior to obtaining the title to your very own limited production g.body, simply because You don't have the means to have an Out Of State Inspection for the car yet…which would clear it of liens/etc or any other issues…Or like stated earlier "you could make it a track only car", even if you had zero intentions of ever taking it to the track…Too bad it sold for $500, Or you could have picked it up for its Real value of $1…That made me laugh more than anything else I heard today, $1…Im always glad to see People on this forum show so much respect to the 85-87 442s…

I did read Every Post on this thread before I responded…Thank you for asking mike p…I personally have no problem with someone swapping VIN #s on a vehicle that is the same year, same options, & the same exact model & body type…the Best part is, the entire Original question was hypothetical, Thank God someone else bought the shell/title Or you would have to worry about 10 second Snitches calling the FEDZ on you…
