6 speed swap in a 79 bu wagon

Haven't done it, but it would be cool. I have a line on C-5 transaxles, in the $1K range, both ZO6 and Z51 ratios. The ZO6 is stiffer geared. Thinking of doing a ZO6 running gear and stuffing it into a Datsun 240. Should be a fun deal. Are you running an LS now up front?

nah i wish, just a built 350, 30 over 202 heads cammed flat tops balanced crank intake, the usual stuff..hooked to a 700r4 but i want a standard.. gotta have 6 speed haha

Well, I can't speak to getting a T56 together in a g-body, but I've been working on installing the Viper T-56 into my 67 Firebird. Depending on your goals with the car, you have options. You should be able to find both aluminum and steel (scattershield) bellhousings for the combo. It seems that most people are running the hydraulic setup on these, probably to minimize any problems with space under the car. I am using the stock Viper clutch actuation setup with a modified 98-02 F-body master cylinder. You may or may not have to fabricate/modify a cross member for your application. I found out the hard way that just because a company says a product will fit your application, does not necessarily mean it will fit.

yeah from everything i seem to be coming across says ill need to extend to frame rails to get a cross member to fit and also either modify one or buy one pre-made. G force makes some nice ones but they are rather pricey. Its been done before in a gbody so i know its possible but ill hafta cut a huge hole in the trans tunnel to get it to fit.

well here goes... got 2 454's to chose from now...got a vortec one out of a 1996 1 ton dually and a 454 hi perf out of a 73 pickup.. the vortec one has the flywheel already for a standard setup and seems to be a better bbc to swap in the wagon.. Just got a t56 out of a 95 z28 with the bell housing.. gonna drop the frame to build the car i think. the trans needs a rebuild. picked it up with the housing for $350, gonna attempt to rebuild it myself. Any ideas or comments will be appreciated. Its my first attempt at anything this complicated..lol but i figure winter is a perfect time to build my 79 bu wagon into a bbc 6 speed..

well here goes, picked up my t56 tonight.. 350 bucks with the bellhousing, guy said 2nd gear is shot but it seems fine, wont know till i crack her open... psyched, gonna be fun

I used the G body brake pedal housing, the G body brake pedal that I cut the foot pad and tweaked the pedal's position. I used an F body clutch pedal that I cut and added .750 to it's length and adjusted the position of the pedal so it sat a little further away from the firewall than the brake pedal so I can slip my foot behind when on the highway. I used the bolt and nylon sleeves from the F body to mount the brake and clutch pedal. I also relocated the pin on the clutch pedal to use the hydraulic set up. I use a Howe throw out bearing

if I had to do it again I would buy a clutch pedal that is made for the G body. My problem was I read that forum online that says you can use the pedal assembly from an F body which is a bunch of BS and I wanted to get it done so I improvised.
