HO-LEE-CHIT about that flexplate! Just when you think you've seen it all someone will surprise you.

So do i need to find a Pontiac 350 flexplate? If so, does it have to be year specific?
It was under a tarp last night and it rained 🙁
I had the engine running before i purchased it. No smoke or noises.
I had no idea how jerry rigged it was until I picked it up :x

You need the proper size flexplate. There are 2 kinds, large and small hole. Guess what you got? Any flexplate from any Pontiac w/large hole will work just fine. I've seen ugly motors work just great too. You may have a winner there after all. Compression test?

It could be anything from mid-'76 on. 301, 350, 400. The sizes are- 2.49" used from mid '76 to '81, and 2.75" used from '64 to mid '76.

Hey Bonnewagon and G_body_vet, good to get your input here also.
Eeuugh  that is one ugly flexplate install!!
With a pre 70 block, you definetly need the adapters from performance years or others who make them.
After that for a perfect fit you need the 301 mounts from a 78-81 gbody. others can probably be made to fit but will be no better that what was on there now.
The date code on the block is July 68. The only blocks cast it late 78 for installation would have been the 400`s for the 79 aniversary T/A. no 350`s were carried over. July 68 would be for a 69 model year.
Any intake from a 350-428-400-455 will fit and are flanged for a q-jet. intakes from 326-389-421 will fit but are normally flanged for carter carbs which are harder to find compared to q-jets
You should for sur change out those ugly core plugs.
I`m searching through my engine code charts for a YE code 350 and I`ll let you know if I find anything.
Have you checked your head castings? post your date code, it can be found on the outside of the head, above the exhaust ports and are a 4 digit letter/number like the one on your block. The casting number is found cast onto the center exhaust port. Post them and we`ll let you know what you got.

would ones from a firebird work? There's one in the local yard with a 301.

I have not tried the ones from a firebird myself but other posters have they did not position the engine properly

Got the flexplate for free today from the same yard I picked up the engine. I also grabbed the distributor hold down.
Now, I have to figure out how to get it mounted in the car.
