you can get a set of moser axles to start an auburn carrier, some good gears. after that I'm clueless but i am sure others will chime in.

you might want to pick up an 8.5 rear end....gbodyparts sell the 8.5 non posi rear end drum to drum for 650 and posi for 850....saves you from trying to track one down and you won't be wasting your money trying to build up the 7.5...

well is building a 7.5 point less or can they take some abuse after being build up ? iknow that 8.5 or 12 bolt would be better
but i am on a buget here i can get new axles and a locking diff for under 600$ and i can always up grade the gears too probly for 150-200 so for around 800$ or so i would have a new rear
and a 12 bolt is 3000$ and a 8.5 is 650$ b4 a rebuilt
so just checking my options here

87montess.... 300 horse to the wheels right?? So actually a 375+ horse engine. Granted I don't abuse my car, but I've got a roughly 400/400 combo in my Cutlass & the 7.5 is just fine.

My friend who helped me with my build, has a '78 Monte with one very nasty 377 SBC that runs 11.30's & he's running the 7.5 yet. It has Auburn internals. His engine is putting well over 400 ponies to the rear wheels.

Another example is a co-worker of mine has a 90-something Camaro with a dyno proven 550 horse LS1 (on spray of course) & his 7.5 took 3 yrs of street & strip abuse before it finally broke. He would average 15-20 times at the strip over the summer.

Everyone bashes the 7.5, but they are alot tougher than most people give them credit for.

As long as the insides are quality parts you can likely do more than 300 to the wheels. I wouldn't recommend it if you're going to be running slicks and a trans brake or standard trans though.

About 8 months ago I built my 350 to 400+ hp. Also have a Ford 9", posi, disk, 350 gears that I was planning to put in to handle the HP. But as of yet not done so. To my big suprise the 7.5 has held up better than I ever expected. And I've had some really good fun with this engine set up.
So I trust the 7.5 alot moy than I ever thought I would. But am still looking to find time to change out the rear end.
