I actually had two Olds powered chebby trucks. One was my Dad's old 78 1/2 ton 2wd that had 2 sbc 350's in it before. I can tell you with the 2.76 gears, they sucked. I had a high mileage but good running 5A headed 81 Olds 307. Wow, it was big improvement power wise, believe it or not. Stock except a glass pack. Then a Performer intake, recurved HEI, Olds 350 Holley reman 800 cfm Qjet, 1 5/8" Flowtech full length A body headers, 2.25" dual exhaust with a H pipe. I then added a 76 Olds 350 with the 204/214 cam and 5A 307 heads. I actually used a SP2P intake, totally killed top end but part throttle was like MPFI. I then bought my Inlaw's 94 chebby Z71 with a knocking swirl port sbc 350. I just welded the mounts to the frame on the 78. I ended using Trans Am 403 Clamshell mounts and bars with spacers. I ran the sbc sensors, computer TBI, factory 454 TBI adapter, an A4 intake and a CCC Olds 307 distributor with the same 350 except Sanderson shorty headers. Ran a bit rough in open loop, perfect in closed loop. Once again, more power, similar power the 5.3 LS trucks with same gearing and 4L60 series trans, I used an adapter plate but crappier mileage. I then added a 454 TBI, when it ran right, way more power than the LS trucks. There was issues with sensors and throttle sticking etc, so I went back to the 350 TBI. With a custom tune, mileage would have been close and decent 454 TBI, power would have been way better. People wonder why I am not a huge sbc fan, these are two good examples.
