78 cutlass W-31 build

Time for an update before I get to fare behind. Were do I start? Well Tuesday morning I ran all over picking up things I needed for the car mostly fluids I strapped it down and Lauren and I were off. We got in kinda late but l managed to get it in the shop last night

were staying at my stepfather's house on the other side of the valley so that's as far as it got the first night.
This morning before I left to go back to the shop I helped Bob (my stepfather) with firewood so that killed some of the morning. Well then when I get to the shop guess what more firewood! But this time with my cousin Rob and we had to cut down an Ash tree and skid it out of the woods in the snow in a Chevy truck with a rotted and broaken frame fun really started when we split it by hand. This is god telling me I should have done firewood at home before I left. Anyway my next Fiasco was to find the trans out in the trailer, did I mention it was 4 outside today? And oh yeah on the way up my motor froz! And pooped 2 freeze out plugs and I'm pretty sure the radiator is completely junk now. What kills me is I drained it mounts ago and it had no drain plug in it oh well at least the block didn't crack I've had that happen to an olds before this afternoon I just about had the trans out and had to take my little cousin to the Dr because he hurt his back but when I got back I made some progress and wile I was gone my cousin Rob disconnected the cooler lines and zipped out the bell bolts so here's where I am tonight

I also talked to my buddy Jim and told him about my trans dilemma and he said yea I figured on something like that so I just ordered a hole kit for it. So with that he's coming up tomorrow when he gets off work and going to rip into this trans and fix whatever is wrong. So I'm hoping to go up tomorrow morning and go over the brakes wish me luck I'm going to sleep now

just like driving on slick roads, even the slightest momentum is the key! glad to see progress!

Cool beans man. Any progress is good progress, even if sometimes you gotta go backwards.

I thought the motor on the truck froze- that would have been really bad!
I feel your firewood pain. I literally just brought the first in last night, and the pile is thin. Will be cuttin' and splittin' for the next few months.

Glad I don't do the firewood thing anymore. I miss a stove to sit in front of but I don't miss the work. Probably my best memories was the wheel coming off my 78 Chevy with a full truck load on. Never did find the wheel. Also my Wife's crazy Uncle attacking Dad who was with my Wife cutting Oak and White Ash on "his" property. My Wife grabbed a piece of wood and hit him. It was my Inlaw's pasture. After he pulled that crap my Father Inlaw told me to load up all the firewood Uncle Bill's guys cut down. I didn't but probably should have. My Wife's Dad and Uncle are a good example of why not to go into business with family. My Inlaw's had hundred's of thousands of dollars stole from their cattle farm to build Uncle Bill's fancy lakeside house and dig the Marina for the Lake and God only knows what else around Oaklake Island Resort. When my Wife's Uncle sold the resort all the shady dealings were uncovered and my Inlaw's were paid accordingly. Too bad my Father Inlaw passed away from Cancer. Sorry for the turkey trail, we charged $110 a truck load for Oak and Ash not that many years ago. Now Poplar goes for that. Glad to see progress and sucks about the freezing. Grab a Spectra plastic aluminum replacement rad for a G body. Cheap and will cool the 350 with no issue. At least the freeze plugs lived up to their name and worked.

Well guy's heat has been a battle! But I got the frost plus back in on the passenger side and got a game plan for the drivers side. My buddy Jim showed up and pulled apart my transmission... It's junk! If you follow the thred you know I never really drove it and it ripped it's self apart the front drum was wobbling and tore up the pump we're the seals ride and the primary frictions are coming apart the primary steals are blue and that's not to mention the crack in the case. I guess I got screwed on that deal. So tomorrow my cousin and I are going to hit some local back roads and barns to try and find another used unit to have Jim build for me. Hopefully we get lucky I only need a core after all so I have high hopes I'll get some pictures of the junk tomorrow

If you want to take a ride down here to central MD, I have a BOP TH350 & a 400 core. I'll be around all weekend cutting firewood. LMK
Thank you that would be awesome if I was home in Jersey but I'm in the mountains in Northeast pa just outside narrowsburg NY but last night my brother found new one on Craigslist for 40$ about an hour from here so that may be the one

Isn't that shitty, that trans should have never been rebuilt if it is like that, not cool. Make sure that motor gets a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. I run water with rust inhibtor all Summer. Then I drain everything down and usually throw in a antifreeze 60/40 water, just in case I need to move it or there is a water pocket trapped some where. Of course we have many -30C and a few -40 days as well. I would imagine freeze plugs are a PIA in car. Hopefully they seal and your carb comes back done right and you get that core. Good luck.
