78 cutlass W-31 build

That is exactly what my bearings looked like when the cam went South on my 350. That cam is the 1970 Olds 350 manual transmission cam, it will work great. Good job👍.

I'm still thinking about going and getting that 403
I don't blame you. Even if the 350 goes back in, a spare motor around is always a good idea and less of a rush to get it back together. If he could find a 425, he could use the same Mahle pistons in 4.155" as my 358 or a DSS forged in 4.125" if minimal wear. It's the same piston as the 350. I think Molnar is doing a 7" rod for the 425 as well. If the 403 is good, his 350 heads and that cam would be perfect to melt the rear tires.

It wants a 425. Every early Cutlass wants a 425.
I have 3 455s lol I don't want to go there I'm trying to keep this car easy to work on easy to remove valve covers in the car. I do however want a 425 crank because there's a 350DX in my shed.

I'm probably going to go get that 403 just for that purpose something happens to any of the cars and there up and running in a weekend
Stay with it. Get it running.

I'm with ya Jared glad you kept the GP btw I'm definitely finishing the mechanics on this car this week my truck is still in the diesel shop and I'm quite sick of driving sh*t boxes that don't belong to me. By the end of the week this car may be towing a trailer so I can use it as a pickup truck lol it's funny but I'm not kidding I have a trailer hitch I was going to put on my 87 to tie the rear rails together and I have a set of air shocks for heavy loads lol

Yeah, 455's never seem to be the easy road taken. The Olds 350 lives forever unless something freak like this happens. Stupid failing cams happen in all makes. Make sure you get the good high Zinc break in oil. I only used SL rated oil 1100/1000 ppm and ZDDP additive. It was the best oil I could get at the time. Napa should have the Lucas Hot Rod oil plus probably many others down there. Even our Walmart in Yorkton, Saskatchewan stocks VR1 20W50. Good luck, hopefully your motor needs very little. Don't use the 24cc cast dish pistons, unless you want mill and deck everything a ton to get 9 to 1 compression. There is a couple of hone to fit forged pistons with better ring packs a 4.065" bore. The 2618 CP has a 1.3cc dish with a 1.5mm ring pack and the coated 4032 10cc Mahle have a 1mm ring pack. Both sit about .013" in the hole. Yes they cost more money but the cast pistons sit way down in the hole. If you are getting machine work really cheap, that is fine. But only those cast pistons will fit that block, if 0 decked. Good luck, we are pulling for you.

I'm hoping to reuse as much as I can it still had 175 psi in every cylinder and has no ridge so I'm thinking clean it and new bearings and pump new cam and lifters but I won't know until tomorrow

Things are looking bleak for this motor with parts available every Bering in this motor is waisted. My brother just went to get me another 350 crank shaft because some of these journals aren't going to polish. Here's some pictures I'll keep you posted.
