lookin foward to the build on this one as much as I enjoyed the journey with the pumkin8tor! looks like you have a really good and solid base to start with!

Good tip on the Tide. Funny, I insist that my work clothes get washed in Tide, haven't found another product that removes the smells as well as the Tide. I would think laundry soap would leave a residue, but not so much huh? Obviously you're suggesting liquid Tide?

Unfortunately I have both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and it's been getting worse over the past year. I hate to admit it but there are some things on cars I just can't do any more, mostly things that require fine (small or tight) finger articulation and gripping. Thank goodness for big bulky air tools! Lol! Anyways, my son took an automotive class last semester and was one of the top students, as well as in his welding class. He gets it, and enjoys it, not much like a lot of the dropouts that take these classes to get an "easy good grade".

As much as I like to be in there, this build will be a tag team operation and he'll be doing a lot of it while I coach. That's a good thing, as much as it makes me crazy when I can't perform certain tasks and have to ask a kid for help.

Keep us posted on the grille adventure!

Actually, the Tide we used was powder but dissolves easily . Liquid probably would work fine though.

I have used tide often on the wife's minivan, the little ones are messy!

I would still be interested if you Blake and I can work something out with the grills before anything hits eBay. Up to you. 😀

Huh... howaboutthat? A factory 350 car that wasn't a Mexican Monte/Elky. You learn something new every day.

Hah! My family moved for my senior year to a town with a bigger high school that offered 'Industrial Arts' courses. (Went from a class of 64 to a class of 450!) While the rest of Senior class was out getting stoned behind the gym, I had no study halls. I built furniture in wood shop, took apart TVs in electronics shop, and dumped gas down my arms in auto shop (that was an interesting rest of that day...). I remember sitting in Calculus and someone cut loose on a drag engine over in the next wing -- the Calc teacher just stopped talking, looked at the ceiling, and waited -- priceless. I got a C+ in Calculus and won the Industrial Arts award at the end of the school year. Yep - the pencil-neck geek won the IA award. I still have the soldering iron my electronics teacher gave me. Too bad I didn't persuade my Dad to go with that 350 instead of replacing the flat cam in the crappy 267 in the wagon...

Blake- are yours the same as what is on CopperTop? (3 Vertical bars) or are they like mine? (one vertical bar) My son would rather have the single bars, he thinks the 3 bars look too old foagie, lol! I wish the factory made grilles with no center bars, just open and deep. I'd be all over that!

Ben,
I put a '78 nose on my wagon so I have the same ones with 3 vertical bars.
The grilles are crack free, but the plating is dull and peeling in some spots. Perfect candidates for modifying.
My headlight bezels are also crack free, but are very dull...
I like my stuff stock looking, so I'm trying to round up the nicest parts I can without having to shell out the dough to have them replated...
Blake

p.s. Simple Green works great for cleaning that grunge off of the interior parts...

If youre looking for brushed aluminum dash trim and want to get rid of the woodgrain. I have a whole set of pieces that have had overlays installed. I have the shifter plate and ash tray cover for a console too.

Nice starter car Ben! If you have not tackled the glove box yet, take the screws out of the bottom and reach up behind the dash and push the tabs in on the sides of the box as you pull it out. Your son might be the better person for it but if you reach up there he should be able to push down on the latch and remove the box. Its kind of hard to explain but I have done it before and it has worked.

SSN -Cool pic!

86- Thanks for offering. As cool as a brushed aluminum look would be, we're going to do a carbon fiber theme in the interior.

87- Thanks. That sounds easy enough. I had my glove box apart on my car so that does make sense.

Blake and liquid- I still need to get some pics of Coppertop's grilles. I think I have a spare set of the 3 bar grilles as well, I took them off my car when I put the single bars on. I believe I still have them...in a box...somewhere. Our garage is still packed with boxes since the move, so I need to get in there and clean them out and get organized so we can start working on some cars. I'll post them up when I come across them.
