Cool even has AC! Engine looks sharp. Nice to see something other than a belly button to. With that kind of HP 3.42s and the torque of 406 cubes she should scoot! You know if your trans took a crap and your spending money on it anyway why not take the opportunity to make one of the single biggest upgrades you could do for a street car and step up to an overdrive. 33% better mileage and no spinning the snot out of it down the highway wearing out your valvetrain and motor before its time. I had great luck with Extremautomatics. Lonnie rebuilt two 200-4Rs for me one for behind the 509ci in the 442 and one for my GN. He provides the core so its just dropped shipped to your door and comes with a year warranty. Its not the only place just giving you an example.

I agree! In addition to the mileage benefits and reduced revs at highway speeds, the 200-4R has a numerically higher first gear, so the car will be even quicker off the line. It would be a great choice behind that Pontiac!
That's what I'm planning for my next Pontiac project, too.

I have thought about that but can i find a 700R4 that will fit a Pontiac pattern?
I have heard , i cant!

Why not just bolt up a 200-4R to your Pontiac 406? 200-4R has a BOP pattern and will work just fine. Take a look at the urls that dogcrap posted. You can a rebuilt one rated for up to 1000 HP!

Im not paying $2000 for a transmission 200-4r when i can rebuild the TH400 for $650 installed ... or $700 to switch to a 350

First off, welcome. Second, your car is F****N SWEET!!! Third, If your car is an every day driver the TH200r4 is worth the cost. Otherwise, I'd stick with the TH400. Those things are bullet proof. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks , I am reading about the 200r4 and im interested ....
I will not drive the car every day but i would love to have overdrive ....
My only problem with buying a transmission from a shop and shipping it is . What if it leaks once i get it installed ...
Im truly screwed at that point.....

Thanks foxfag. lol  As mentioned it comes with a year warranty but transmission leaks would be uncommon for a fresh 200-4R and really anyone can do a cheap simple pan gasket change. The difference between $700 and 1,495 is substantial but so is the benefit if you are doing more with it than going stop light to stop light. If its just a track car or stop lighter or you just don't have the means to do then it is what it is and no one would fault you for that. BTW I meant no offence with my couch comment just my warped sense of humor. The interior is nicely done and I especially like the made to match wood grain dash behind the aftermarket gauges it ties in nicely and fits the whole Buick luxury performance theme.
