$650 dollars rebuilt & installed that's a bargain! That would cost $2000 where I live...

Thanks Dogshit i spent everything i had on this car and borrowed $2000 to get it ....

My work is seasonal and only 2 months left of work and im so screwed on money at this point i really must go with the cheapest route .... A local guy will rebuild my TH400 for $650 installed and i can buy a TCI 2400 stall torque converter for $287 shipped with anti balooning plate (incase i decide to spray it in the future) ... Also want to add a Hurst floor shifter $204 ..

So im being forced to selll some of my 80's bmx bikes that i collect and im bummed about it .....

Foxtrot , a TH400 is a basic transmission , no electronic bs ... He will rebuild it for $450 if i do the work but for $200 he can ****z with it .....lol

No sweat you do what you need to do. Everybody would like to go to the gas pump put $20 in and get just as far as they would have got with $30 pre overdrive but if you are not putting miles on it it doesn't matter. At $450 for the actual rebuild price its hard to go wrong. Shoot at that price if next season you have money and want to upgrade you can and easily get your money back out of it. BTW do you know what cam or what the basic cam specs are of that motor?

As bad as I want the OD, I may just use a TH400 for the meantime too. I'd like to drive the car before long and spending another $2k on a trans isn't going to speed things up. The beauty of the TH400 is that the mounting points are the same for the 200-4R and they're the same length. It makes a future upgrade a little easier.

The main reason I want OD is because I want to go to a lot of events and make road trips when I'm done. I want to be able to cruise at 70mph comfortably.

Yea being able to gear my car for the quartermile and cruise the interstates living near the intersection of two interstates made it a no brainer for me. It shouldn't cost you $500 for a simple bolt up install. In my case I have a buddy that works at an automotive shop and we just slip in there on a sunday afternoon and do it for free.

Nice to see another poncho in a regal. Mine is undergoing a resto for the winter.

First, welcome to gbf. Second, beautiful car! Third, I bought a built 200-4R from John Kozak, out of Richmond, KY a few years back with a 2300-2400 stall and wiring kit for my 66 330 (it's still in the crate, not installed yet) for $1000 shipped. He always advertises in Journey with Olds' magazine (from the Olds Club of America)... email him @ [email protected]. He is advertising trannys for $625-825, plus shipping. 2004R, 700R4, 350 and 400's set up for non-computer operation.

So the 200r4 will bolt right into my pontiac 406?
Use the same cross member , yolk and all ? Or am i confused?

If i was to buy this transmission what would i need to do to it to get it in ?
Driveshaft ?

They are 4.5hrs away from me , but in a city my grandpa lives in . I could make a trip out of it , if its truly worth it and easy to install with out to many headaches.

Yes, all 200-4R are multi-case and will bolt to anything

Tail mounting point is the same location at 200-4R, same crossmember will work.

Yoke is different. Easy fix though.

The TH400 (w/4" tail housing) overall length is 28 1/4"
The 200-4R overall length is ......................27 3/4"
You're looking at about a 1/2" difference in drive shaft length. Some think it's negligible, some don't.
As for the rear trans mounts you're looking at 26 3/4" and 26 7/8"....which is only 1/8" difference and tells me the same crossmember will work
