Re: New Project (not a G-body)

Ditto on loving these trucks! I learned to drive trucks like these when I was around 10 on my grandparents' farm and have always had a soft spot for them. I actually considered one of these instead of my LeMans when I was looking for a project but I needed a back seat lol. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread, love it 🙂.

Re: New Project (not a G-body)

I really like the oldschool bowtie hubcaps I remember seeing them all the time when I was growing up in Indiana & these days you just don't see them that much anymore lol

Re: New Project (not a G-body)

Well I got a little busy the last couple weeks, but I managed to get the engine out after work tonight.

Unfortunately I had to chop up the shifter arm to get it to pull out... the bolts holding it on were stripped and in-accessible.

if all goes well i'm gonna finish taking the suspension apart tomorrow and work on getting it all sandblasted.

I forgot to mention... I've yet to name it. Perhaps its best that I wait until I get to drive it? Frankly I can't really think of a good name :?

Very cool! Always loved these trucks and always wanted one. Good luck!

Pecking away little by little. Upper control arms and front sway bar blasted and being painted!

I'm using KBS chassis paint with self-etching primer, and rustoleum as a top coat.

My first legal on the road vehicle was a '77 C10 SWB stepside....same exact color, L6, 3 on tree, MS, MB. no radio, no cigar lighter.... I loved that truck

Best of luck with project. Ive got an 82 sitting here that needs some love too.

I always wanted to do one of those & put an 89 to 91 GMC Suburban/Jimmy or Dually front clip with billet grill & no emblem, I had a 79 BIG10 Shortbed factory 454,had pw, pl ,tilt, working A/C, 90 suburban buckets & console White with Tan interior, all aftermarket suspension, actually put a rear sway bar on it also & 1980 square headlight setup. I will try & dig some pics of it out & try & post
Good luck with it

i've never been much of a fan of pre-silverado fullsize chevys, except for what you have here.. std cab, short bed 2wd.. always wanted 1, went as far as looking at a few but never pulled the trigger.. will definitely be watching your progress to see how you make out with it! good luck!

I'll be honest i think the '80 square-headlight fronts are ugly. IDK why, maybe because the lights are rectangular and they don't quite fit right in the bezel that was made for a round light. To each his own though. I was originally going to switch over to the 73-78 style front trim, but this one has started to grow on me.
