Nice... Those headers are sweet looking.

Just one suggestion, even though no one will ever really see it... Since you've got it apart already, why don't you paint your transmission housing and drive shaft? It would look so much cleaner behind that slick looking 454. 8)

The shaft was in there to measure for a cut, it gets blasted and painted. The trans is just a stock used piece to use till I get things set up, and get the bugs out the car. I may paint the housing though.

Oh, okay... Gotcha. Post pics after all of that is painted and polished it already looks good, I'm sure it will look amazing!

I wish I had the time, tools and means, to completely tear down my car and clean every part down to bare metal and repaint it to get it looking that good.

Looking good!!!

Gotta paint the engine blue though for 1979 😛

Well, winter in Ohio is almost over, at least enough to work in my unheated garage, and I just got a postcard from Summit Racing! My Quarter panels have arrived, so off to Tallmadge Ohio to pick up the whole order (Goodmark bumpers, door skins, and quarters) I hope to post more progress soon.

Since we last met,I have installed my 454 into the chassis.I am in the process of fitting the alternator, p/s pump, carb, trans, fuel pump and radiator. The ebay headers I planned on using were for a street rod and ended interfering with the engine crossmember. Thanks to the guys on here I was turned on to Hooker 2455 headers, with a few mods fit nicely. I just fabbed a trans crossmember and test fitted the 2.5 summit dual exhaust. I hope to fire the engine without the body, then store the chassis while concentrating on the body.

That's a nice crossmember you fabricated..I'm surprised you didn't box the c section of the frame tho....

Signed up to this forum to tell you I like your build. I have a 80 el camino with a 350 in it. Your pictures gave me a idea for a crossmember. My headers hit mine now. Cant imagine how hard it would be to get a 454 in it. Anyways, cool build and its nice to see im not the only one trying to work on a car in the cold Ohio weather.

i in need of a crossmember just like it i put a 350 in my 79 cutlass and my 3''exhaust hits it and i cant bering it up high enf to keep it form hit the road eveynow in them cuz it sits so low but that crossmember would take care of that it dont look like itd be to hard to make nice build tho looks good so far

I love this build ca'nt wait to see your updates.

That is one sweet build makes me regret selling my elky... (that was the deal I made with the woman to buy my ss) however I do know where there is an 86 elky with a 79 nose and someone converted to a 4 speed 8)
Awsome build I hope you get more pics and updates soon 😀
