BUILD THREAD 79 Malibu wagon not slow not fast

What's intriguing to me why is just the nut glowing... I don't remember how big the eyelet is in the cable.. but that was stock setup so I didn't mess with it.. probably ought to check and verify proper size eyelet on the battery posts of the alternator
The glowing w/o melting the end is a mystery.

I’ve broken a few of those off in my old LB7 in my day….what fun

I've been lucky with Glow plugs, on the DMax over the years,. Though, I've cracked several pistons, snapped 2 cranks and ripped main webs on several blocks lol running a high duty cycle while towing, it's not that I ran fast, I just didn't like slowing down for wind or hills 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

I can remember reading one of your broken crank threads over on DD some years back in the red/maroon LMM I think it was? I still kick around selling my LBZ over the issue.

Actually it was a 99 C3500HD that was a 6.5TD/4L85 setup I broke the crank in the 6.5 and swapped it to a lbz out of a 06 dmax Express van.
There's a whole derailed build thread over there on my current 09 LMM that I did the frame swap on

Well working on the glow nut alternator..
Think the 2 piece nut/washer created minimum contact while it was tight. Warranty on the AZ alternator is still good and they'll replace it..

Clean up the eyelets.. replaced the eyelets on the junction block side.. they're 3/8" eyelet for 5/16s bolts sodered and crushed some new 4ga 5/16 eyelets on.
Also used 1 piece flange nuts vs the 2 piece flange nuts

got a few days next week that will be cold enough to run the GH

Out of curiosity, I know your wagons a stick too and we’re not too terribly far from each other…..Do you have someone you use for manual transmission work? Or do you do it all yourself?

Outside driveshaft, did everything myself. bought a brand new T56 at the time.

MR finally die out?

I bought a brand new Richmond super t10 for my wagon at the start of the project. Gave a guy my factory manual transmission tilt column to rebuild after someone busted it up 20 years ago trying to steal the car. He had it for a year and 4 months and never touched it so I took it back and rebuilt it myself. I was buttoning the car up and put fluid in the trans and noticed it has a leak in the midplate area but the 1 year warranty is up and Richmond told me I’m SOL. Took the trans back out and to a guy fairly local to me and he’s had it since January 4th and I’m getting the feeling he hasn’t looked at it yet and I don’t feel like screwing around another summer not driving the car. If it wasn’t a brand new transmission I’d consider opening it up myself because I had a used blown up super t10 from 1975 that I tore down before I bought the Richmond but someone wanted the case more than I did so I sold it.
