A recent thread got me thinking what gbodys came with the 8.5 rear. Was it just the GN's? I've heard that the Monte Carlo SS cars had them too. Just curious if it was limited to select cars or if many of them had it, or if they could be ordered with the 8.5 rear end. I'd love to find one but they can be quite expensive and are hard to find.

One footnote, there are/were no GM sourced G body 8.5 rears prior to 1984 model year.

That said, they have been known to turn up in other G bodies as the result of a swap.

Might as well add this, since it comes up from time to time, no G body wagon left the assembly line with an 8.5 rear, diesels included. See above as wagons ended at the end of the 1983 model year.
