I have a 8.5 posi rearend with new Richmond 373 gears installed complete rearend with Proform aluminum girdle cover on it zero miles since gears have been installed, what do you think is a good asking price for this rearend to sale,NO SMART remarks PLEASE. THANKS

Price obviously depends on the condition. I have sold rusted, clapped out open 8.5's for $500 but it had so much rust I wouldn't trust it . The last one I sold for $1500 in one day but it was show car worthy and ready to install. I should have asked more. It was a low mileage rear end with posi, had been sand blasted, painted satin black and had new seals and bearings installed.

With receipts indicating fresh parts, it's worth more than just a used rear-end.

Aftermarket 9" housings & set-ups can be easily found these days so you won't get more than what they go for unless it's something original that matches the needs of someone restoring a certain model.

Making one clean & presentable never hurts when selling for moderate to premium pricing.

start high, people shell out too much money for those in any condition let alone one that's fresh like yours.

C-clip eliminators? Still drums? Steel drums or aluminum? Old brakes or fresh brakes and hardware? Any pitting in the metal or rust on the spring perches?

Only tricky thing about selling a zero mile never installed rear with new gears is the buyer has to trust the work that was done. Myself, that means before all the work of an install into my car all that needs to be gone through all over again.

I'd rather either a stocker untouched from the factory, or, something I could test drive if shelling out more than parts car part level money. Even a rebuilt unit that had some miles on it I could open up and check out and see how things had been working.

Based on what i know so far, throw out a price of $1250, and take anything that shows up over $1000 cash in hand.

I paid $600 for a one-legger, but I purposely sought out one where I could put everything into it myself. I'd suggest ck80 is on the money. Be prepared to ship for top dollar, simple long pallet will do, even better if you can bring it to a trucking depot like ABF. If you were closer, I'd make an offer. I have $1400 into mine by now.

No less than $1500 if you guarantee it.

Why not put it in something and test it for noise, leaks, etc.? If it's tested, then you know the guarantee won't be needed.

Only reason I think $1500 might be tough RIGHT NOW is so many people are being tight fisted with money due to the uncertainty with the virus/economic situation.

I wouldn't be surprised by a request for a guarantee in writing, but, it's going to be a personal guarantee. Anything the installing shop did (and those guys DO get stuff wrong) would only be between you and them... if some other guy shows up with a broken or noisy assembly looking for work, they're going to say sorry, our deal was only for the original customer.

Other side of not testing it is that, if something does go south, having never run it yourself you've got zero PROOF it was correct and working proper when sold. Shops make mistakes, parts can be defective. Someone asks for money back to fix, you say no, they go small claims and hand over an ad saying new, never installed or run, judge asks how you know it worked right if you never used it... you're paying repairs PLUS court costs.

So, just take all that in to account before selling a big $ mechanical part.
