If you have not already dumped the cash, consider the Tremec TKO 3550. I did a T56 swap 10 years ago, and the floor needed major surgery. The Tremec needed a smaller hack, and was about $1000 cheaper, plus no adapter plat is required. Input shaft and collar slide right into the G-body bellhousing. I ordered the trans with the 0.64 OD from AMP in 2006, but there are other vendors these days. It's a long shift from 1:1 to 0.64:1, but my plan is to only use 5th when I am blasting down I25 at 75+ mph. I used a Jeg's dual crossmember. If I custom made something, I might have been able to tilt the trans downward to require a smaller cut in the floor. It only took me 13 years to get this far...
