BUILD THREAD 81 Buick/Olds Turbo Wagon 02/15/2024 More Parts!

Not a problem Ed, I looked last night and I don't have the dedicated brake light wire, so I'll be ordering the 78-81 set today.

Well thanks for posting the info about the wiring never thought about that, I am running regal wiring on my car modded at the back for the Malibu lights so I have a dedicated brake light wire now that my 80 wagon would not have had from the factory. I have to call them and get the 82+ kit
So what's happening with your car, Ed? Haven't heard anything in awhile.

No to steal Jim's thread but its still at the body shop its a sore subject I'm pissed off its taking so long I kind of said screw it and forgot about it for awhile to much other stuff going on. I haven't seen the car in about 6 months. I have to make some time to get down there I would love to pull it out and take it somewhere else but its in so many pieces I don't feel like it.

Maybe after Jim's done his wagon he can finish mine

I never called today, Matt was saying about the instructions, but the have to know the year so it can be programmed right.

Sucks your cart is still in paint jail! I'd be pissed too. I have a ton of house repairs after the wagon is painted. Our else I'd hook ya up.

I will have to take a cruise to you shop though in the spring so you can see it in person and tell me what you think.

Jack, I was thinking that with the old lenses, I can just hack them up and polish the front.

Well, I had a plan for the hitch, originally I was going to hack up an old class 4 that was made years ago for my el camino. But, it is pretty rusty and more work that it is worth. So, I hit the local metals joint and bought some 2 1/4" diameter 1/4" wall round tube. I also have some 2" diameter 1/4" wall tube.

I'll use the 2" to run into the frame rails and bolt the bumper into. And the 2 1/4" will go from side to side, with holes cut in it to slip over the bumper mounts that are going into the frame. I have some 1/4" left over from the frame notch to brace the receiver tube.

It adds sine weight to the rear, but that is ok. I only want to be able to tow my little fiberglass box trailer to long haul events and such.

Pictures are worth 1000 words so I'll take some later when I get back on it.

Jim,
I'd very much like to see how you execute your plan for the trailer hitch. I kinda like the concept of it going thru the bumper.
I'm guessing that the class 4 hitch is a heavy beast.

I was checking out one of the instruction sheets that Ed submitted. Cutting the lens with a cutoff wheel is a bit messy and will leave a ragged cut. If you have access to a band saw, it would make a much neater cut. What I thought originally was cutting the lens where it bonds together to the housing.
It's where the factory seams them together.

Ed,
That sucks about your car being held in Pergatory. They were on a roll and making good progress...I guess their momentum fell short after awhile.

*Sorry about the hijack, Jim.

No worries guys!

I ordered the LED taillights yesterday, along with a few other bulbs. I'll try and do a nice detailed write up for the magazine.

I did get the hitch done, though I didn't take any pics really. My dad was here and helped me along with the grunt work, sanding of the chrome from the rear bumper and all. He is a machine. Anyway, I have the hitch done, the inner bumper structure cut out, and the bumper holes filled and chrome removed.

Hopefully Sunday I can finish modifying the bumper and get it all hooked together.

Here are a get few random pics.
