81 Malibu project restarting

I’ve been thinking of this color for a while. I originally thought it might be too much for this body style. I’m feeling it again.

An old coworker of mine had this truck sitting for years. He was going to junk it to get it out of the driveway. We made a deal and I picked it up today. He couldn’t find the title, so I’m in a bit of a holding pattern.I originally was thinking of dropping the engine in my Malibu but, it’s too solid to chop up. It has no brakes whatsoever and won’t idle. But it does fire up and run. For now I’ll let it sit in the driveway.

why not,it's not all blown out.
Offer to go to the courthouse with him and have the clerk pull up the title so you can get it transferred into your name. He will balk at that idea because (since the truck has been sitting) he stopped paying taxes on it. In other words, he will not find the title nor will you end up with it. I hope things turn out different for you and it gets in your name.

It’s not like that in NJ. You can get a duplicate title for $60. That’s what will happen or I’ll drop it off and drive it through his garage door.

That’s exactly what I was referring to (getting a duplicate title). In my state the person whose name is on the title has to apply for it. One other reason people do not have titles is the vehicle was purchased from a ‘Pay on the Lot’ stealership. The new owner stops making payments and therefore never obtains a clear title.

This truck belonged to a coworker of mine. He’s had it for years. Hell it’s been sitting since 2014. The brakes went and he let it sit.

update on the green truck:
My coworker couldn’t locate the title. The truck was paid off years ago, but since he doesn’t have the original copy of the title, there’s no record of the lien being lifted. He called Bank of America while we were at dmv and they said it was paid offf so long ago it will have to be done by mail to get it from the archives. We’ll see what happens.
I haven’t done anything with the truck besides clean out the interior and inspect the brakes. I can easily part out the truck and make money on it, but it would be a real shame.
