82 Malibu Wagon in New Zealand

Does the heater high/low blower relay still have the 12 GA/3.0 wire running from the starter to either a 3 cavity or 4 cavity (most likely this one) that has the A/C compressor wires? If so look to see if it is melted at the red wire's cavity. Then check to see if it runs to the relay. Possible it could of been the fusible link (16 GA/1.0) that could be an issue which would be an easy fix. But a good long term fix even after replacing the fusible link would be adding a 30 amp fuse up near the relay or just run a new 12 GA/3.0 red wire from the battery or starter with a 16 Ga/1.0 fusible link (about 4 in/10 cm long) to the relay with the 30 amp fuse near it.

GM set it up where the heater blower relay is spliced off the same wire that feed the main power & ignition switch. Yet the set up lighting on the other red wire.
Just having a look at this was supposed to have an auto sparky coming but he's ghosted me, that relay is that this one that's bolted onto the heater. Nothing on that is melted, have pulled the starter motor harness out & checked the fuseable link's and they're fine also. Looks like i've got a curly one here.....Cheers for any info, i'm not very clued up on wiring but i can pass any info on to who ever i find to sort it if i cant myself.....

Those fusible links looks like someone spliced together what was left of the originals & added links cut off another harness.

Proper repair would of had the plastic splice covers cut off with the new links spliced in with them being about 8 to 12 cm long. There should never be a link spliced to another one for repair, always spliced to the regular wire. Did you find the plastic connector the the A/C harness to the engine harness? That is the location where the burn/melt would be. Most of the time it will be a 4 wire connector or a 3 wire connector. It could be located to the rear of the engine near the main part of the engine harness.

Is that on the main engine harness or on the heater wiring that comes through the firewall bud Cheers

It is actually the connecting point of both. On the Heater-A/C harness, the red wire will go to that connector along with the compressor wires. The engine harness that ride wire comes off a splice in the harness that will go to that connector with no other wire but there will be the 2 wires to go to the compressor.

I think when all this lot was removed at the start that had the heater wiring plugs on it as well as the computer stuff, i'm not even sure if i've still got whets left of this loom

Think i've found a lot of the problems here - im running the 79 parts wagon loom. I've just pulled out the v6 loom & there's the heater plugs & all, with the alternator wire's there's no bolt on connection just the clip, can i convert that over then simply use her original loom. I'd only need 12v switched for the distributor then.....Cheers for all the help to so appreciated

As long as you have good terminal & splicing supplies you should be able to repair one with the other. You can cheat by running a 12 GA/3.0 wire with a 16 GA/1.0 fusible link off the positive battery terminal putting the link at the battery. Even a 10 GA/5.0 wire with a 14 GA/2.0 fusible link can work. GM did this with the later model years of the El Camino & Monte Carlo. This can also work by using this single wire set up by running it off the starter stud to the alternator stud. The other thing is seeing both harnesses each has the connector for the heater-A/C harness but the different styles.

The "naked" harness has the 4 wire connector (bottom of picture) & the one you had on the wagon had the 3 wire connector (middle of the picture with the alternator wires). You will need to make sure you use the right one to plug in the heater-A/C harness. You can chance them around by lightly pushing in the tang on the blade to slide it out, them spread it back out to lock in the connector.

Cheers bud, we went with the original loom to the wagon. Had a mate call in with some electrical knowledge & with what you had said we diagnosed the 79 loom had a break in it somewhere, run the og loom & with some mod's as it was for the v6 we got it running & charging. Hopefully no more issues on that side, heaters all plugged in & working. I did notice a 1 or 2 second delay of the wagon turning off when the heaters on so hopefully i dont get any issues there, i almost swear this things jinxed lol it loves to throw what ever it can at me 1 after another haha
