A long time ago I saw a none SS monte just like yours. It was kinda of a dark red it had cragar SS that where wider then stock other then that the car was dead stock and it looked bad *ss. Stick with stock look. I have never seen a monte ss get my attention like that one did plus this hot chick drove it that i knew from work it was her first car i think.

thats basically the look i am going for with this car. i wanna keep it looking pretty much stock on the outside. im gonna keep the lower body mouldings but i wanna eliminate the plastic strip that goes down the side off the car. i will get rid of the two tone paint and paint the car with a dark blue metallic. i am going to use a set of aluminum rims on the car from a monte ss for now and i wanna run a slightly fatter tire on the rear

good job how many hours into it do you have was also wondering whats the process of getting the body off i might pull my body off but all i have is engine hoist , a jack and a couple stands thanks keep it up

Your car's lookin real good man good work. As far as the nose, I personally prefer the LS front. But to do an SS? I wouldn't, to many people do it already. You see alot less regular front ends these days. Just my opinion. I do love SS's tho. And your dad's is gorgeous, I've always wanted a first gen.

basically all we did to get the body off the frame was undo the body mounts, disconnect the emergecy cable, break lines from the master cyliner, fuel lines going to the gas tank, also i think theres a wire that goes to the porportioning valve for the breaks that would need to be disconnected. its alot easyer to do with the motor and trans out of the car. we basically got a couple of long 6x6 beams inbetween the body and frame at the firewall and the rear. we then jacked th hole car up an and put some stands under the beams and let the frame down and rolled it out.
it was pretty sketchy putting it back on the frame i thought we were gunna drop it a couple of times. as for amount of hours put in the car i have no idea really just know theres alot.

Wow! Great work. Do you have an estimate for how much $$ you have in the Monte so far? I'm just getting started on my first project, which is an '80 Cutlass. I was going to just drop a new engine and transmission in it, but after seeing your car, I may reconsider!

well im 19 and only working part time right now and plan on going to college this year. so far for paint and body parts i would say maybe $1300. i still gotta get all the outside body work and paint done but i have an uncle who is a professional body man so ill prolly save some $$$ that way. i only spent $250 on my 350 which i think was a hell of a deal cause its been rebuilt not to many miles ago with a mild cam. i dont think the first owner of the motor knew what he had. ill prolly spend another 1000 at the most to get it running i plan on buying an edelbrock perfomer rpm intake, 600 cfm carb with electric choke and some hooker competition headers. i still have alot of interior parts to get cause mines pretty rough so i dunno what thats gunna cost. the car was $500. thats what i got in it so far but i have saved alot of money by me and dad doin the work ourselves. basically i spend most of my money on this car and not much else lol.

Yep, I had big plans for my Cutlass when I bought it last year, but the kids keep whining about needing food, shoes, clothes, etc... ;-) I think that mine is going to be a long, drawn out rebuild, only progressing when a few extra bucks make an appearance.

just put my newish intake on the motor today. i was gunna buy a new edelbrock perfomer but bought this used weiand intake with a 1" spacer for $100 its basically as good as new. just a carb and some headers and it will be running!

finally finished up the motor on the monte this week and got it running. i used a set of hooker competition headers from summit, they fit pretty good although i did have to put a dent in one of the driver side tubes for clearance on the motor mount. i also used an electric fan off a wreaked ford taurus which accually fit right in the stock shroud with hardly any modification.
