I am restoring a 1983 Hurst Olds and the car has trunk struts to keep the deck open.
This deck lid is pretty heavy with the spoiler, as we all know.

I need to purchase a set of these gas strut/springs.
If anyone has any input let me know, I've read a lot of stories.
I'd hate to buy a pair and have them not work.
I'm not sure I can switch this setup to the torsion springs?
Thank you,
Mark

I have an Firebird spoiler on my Cutlass Trunk. And new Struts. And it cannot hold the trunk lid open with the spoiler installed. IDK what Im going to do to fix it. I love the spoiler. During the summer, it would partially support the trunk lid.

I have an 81 wich had stock trunk shocks instead of the rod style. I bought some 70lb shocks and the pair wouldnt lift the stock trunk without the spoiler. They can be purchased up to 100 but I dont think the dual 100's could have lifted the trunk alone.

Thanks eeryone... I did buy a set of 1983 Gas Springs/Struts, they hold up the trunk, not sure for how long though?
Heavy trunk...

Trunck shocks were discontinued in 81, early 82 because they were garbage.
Ive salvaged a few sets from Hursts people were parting since most are unaware that they're unique.
The 83 Hurst had their torsion bars replaced with thicker torsion bars and used a special tool to help do so, I have a photo of them swaping them out along with the tech instructions.
83 Hursts never came with gas shocks... I would be concerned about a rebody or clone if it did come with them and no torsion bars.
Every Hurst Ive owned has the thicker rods and the deck lid stays up, heck my 85 442 came with a factory W40 spoiler and the trunk lid stays up however my 87 and 88 Cutlasses do not...
I added an 83 Hurst deck lid with spoiler on my 84 Calais deck lid stayed up.
I believe the factory may have used thicker torsion rods in 84 and 85 due to the potential for the car to become a Hurst.
Hurst had plans for an 85 Hurst FE3X (only a concept drawing exists) and an 86 Hurst called "Black Max" base off the FE3X concept car...

Its also possible to tighten the torsion rods by moving them up a notch, theyre adjustable you know...

Every number on this car is #'s matching, that did occur to me... the frame was off the car, whoever did the work, knew what they were doing, it's flawless...

We have a lift support book here at NAPA that we can look up the shocks by length, force, type of end

Do you have a complete set with brackets for sale? I'm looking to use it on my 78 Malibu. Thank you.
