Man, I have done some searching/chatting and a guy linked me to your thread here. I have a 83 El Camino with a 305 currently. I've been researching/deciding what to replace it with and when i watched your 383 video it made my mind up(mostly)! Did you have to deal with any of the computer items on this car/? or is it equipped? My next questions was rear end/drivetrain however you answered that for me. My Elco has been lowered a few inches, and has soft suspension, did the 383 affect your ride/flexing at all with the increase in torque? I am looking at starting from a 90's 350 block spring some cash on a machine shop, etc. then purchasing the 383 kit elderbrock offers in a all in one package. This stuff is totally new to myself, however I feel dropping in a new engine, i might as well put a 383 in while I'm at it since it fits nice in the G-bodys. Any tips/thoughts from your completed project? Thanks in advance

Hey i was going through your post nice progress, how did the posi turned out? Any complications being from the fbody?
Sorry for the very late reply, but I haven't visited here in way to long. I still haven't installed the posi, but it will be happening soon, as the single tire fire I get right now is a little embarrassing. :giggle:

Sorry for the late reply. I removed the factory ECM, Computer controlled carb, and wiring harness from the car. I put them in a tote for safe keeping. The 383 didn't affect the ride at all, as it weighs about the same, but yes the car flexes and twist alot more than it did with the 305, but that will be the case anytime you increase power, and torque.

I apologize for not posting any update recently, but I got a great job offer, and took it, so my mind has been very occupied for the last several months. Anyway, I haven't cut my car any slack, and it has been my day in, day out daily driver. The new engine has a little over 7000 miles on it now, and has run flawlessly. Never a misfire, or even a hint of an oil leak. I absolutely love this car, and the way it runs, and drives. I did recently rebuild the A/C system, as the compressor had been noisy since I got the car, and it finally started leaking freon from it. I gave it a new compressor, accumulator, orifice tube, and hoses. I flushes the evap core, and condenser thoroughly, and charged her back up with 4 cans of freon and 8oz. of PAG 150 oil. The AC works great, and you can probably see the water on the accumulator in the pics below. If you stay in on one spot more than 5 minutes, I swear there's about a quart of cold water on the ground below the ac box. ;) My car also had a plastic/aluminum radiator in it that I always hated even though it worked well. I like the OE look, and they weren't putting plastic rads in cars back in 83, so I finally located a new brass/copper 3 core rad and installed that, It looks much better, and works great. I can leave it idling with the AC on for an hour, and it won't go past 190. I'm hoping to get the 2.73's, and posi installed soon. Thanks

Matt

Where did you find one & how much was it?

I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in over 20yrs at out local saturday night car show, and stated hanging out with him, and helping him with his projects. He told me he had a new rad on his shelf for my car. It was brand new and the box said heatbuster on it. He has quite a few of these old brass/copper rads squirreled away. He also has an all original unrestored 71 chevelle ss 454 LS6 4speed car with 80,000 miles on it. His barn is crammed full of 60's and 70's Chevy muscle. Needless to say say, I'm helping him out with his project every chance I get. We're in the middle of swapping a big block into a beautiful old 66 Chevelle Wagon right now. Sorry I don't know where to find you one.

Hello all. I thought it was about time for an update. I finally got around to ordering the necessary Moser 28 spline axles to install the F body posi unit I bought a year ago, back on page 5 post #37 of this thread. The unit I got came with a very nice looking set of 2.73's that I will be using. While these may not be great gears for drag racing, they will keep my car highway friendly since I'm running a non overdrive TH350 trans, and they're still better than the 2.29's the car currently has. I already installed a new set of wheel studs in the axles, and I'm off this Thursday, and will be doing the swap then.
I know this thread is getting a little on the old side, but you guys know how projects can get. You work on them when time, and money permit. Mostly money! :)
Here are a couple pics.
