Wow...What a difference compared to your first video! Yeah, trans & drivetrain beef-up is probably in order. ;)
Thanks, and the difference is certainly night and day. Going from the 140hp 305 to this feels great. The engine runs perfectly, and the carburetor feels spot on. I already have a posi unit from an F body, but I will still have to purchase the Moser 28 spline axles for it to fit. However the trans has to come first.

My trans guy made my TH350 in my TA bullet proof (as he called it - his term, not mine - I'm sure my .357 would disagree) for $325. I never had any issues out of the Trans the rest of the time I owned it, and I beat it up pretty regularly.

I thoroughly enjoyed 3.73's behind my 400ci/TH350 in my 78 T/A.. I just didn't like the RPM's at highway+ speeds.. 2800-2900rpm at 65.. I'm leaning towards sticking with 3.73's behind my 200R4 (4 Speed) and hopefully its a lot better.. rpm claculators put me around 2100-2200.. But I sure did like the launch of the 3.73, and going down to a 3.42, especially with a 305 thats just breathing (emissions removed, distributor, intake, carb, headers, duals). Not too worried about the 200R4 with just the 305, and Im not in my early 20's anymore, so I wouldn't be beating it up... as much... heh

Back when I bought my Monte I was sure it had a th350c, but when I was installing the headers on it about 9 months ago, I noticed a band adjustment stud sticking down out of the passenger side of the case. I didn't recall ever seeing a th350 with a band adjuster, and after some research discovered I had a th250c which was only made for 2 years, and is visually identical to a th350 with the exception of the band stud on the side. I believe they made a non lock up version in the early 70's as well. With that said, rebuilding this one is not an option. I will need to find a suitable th350 core to build, which is starting to be difficult these days, as there isn't as many of them laying around as there used to be. As far as gears go, my driveshaft only rotates slightly over 2 1/4 turns for one full revolution of the tire, so I believe I have 2.29 gears!:doh:The posi unit I picked up has 2.73 gears, and came with the pinion. The gears appear to be in very nice shape, so I'll run them. Without OD, I don't want deeper gears, as I like cruising the highways at a decent RPM. Like you, I'm not in my 20's anymore, Actually I'm deep in my 40's, and I'm not looking for a hotrod, just an enjoyable daily driver. Thanks

You probably know this already, but 2.29 was standard, 2.73 was optional.

According to this post:

https://gbodyforum.com/threads/type-of-transmission.28903/#post-228827

The TH200 has 14 bolts holding the pan. The TH350 has 13.

Surprising you're having trouble finding a TH350. They're plentiful around here for anywhere from $100 for needing rebuilt to $350 for "Rebuilt and used a little" to $800 for "Strip Ready".

The RPM Calculator says, with the 2.73 and the 255/70-15's you said it had in your original post, the TH350 would put you at 2100 RPM at 65. Find a 200-R4 and go thru the steps to install it, you're at a nice gas-sipping 1450 :D

Thanks for the link. The trans in this car is not the th200, and has a 13 bolt pan on it. The transmission filter and gasket kit for this this trans fits both the th250, and the th350. Its a stronger trans than the th200, but not as strong as the th350. None of my local shops have a th350 they want to sell, but I will locate one soon (hopefully). Thanks

A suitable th350 has been found, and is in my possession. I got it from a good friend thats had it sitting in his shop for years. He said it came in a project car that he got and put a 4 speed in. He doesn't know much about it, but he practically gave it to me. It appears to be in nice shape. I may even throw it in the car this weekend to see what its like. Its an easy swap, and I would like to know the condition of it before just opening it up, and throwing money at it. Maybe it will shift, maybe not, if it does feel solid, does it feel like it needs a shift kit, or does it feel like it already has one? So many question that installing it should answer very quickly. Here are a few pics.
The bellhousing has a couple large letters cast in it, that I don't remember seeing on a th350 before. Any ideas?
