continuing to the repairs, I figured that if I was going to go through all this work, I was going to keep it... ulcers, headaches and all... I took a couple last drives before butchering it up, and in the process, trans #7 started acting up, the way all the others did, slipping badly between gear changes...I had always noticed some stiffness in the shifter "feel", and thought maybe a stretched or kinked cable, so I reached out to friends I still had in the auto parts industry, and was amazed at the lack of availability and description for these....I got one in, and after getting the old one out, realized that the new one was not the correct one. the original was also not kinked and the cable seemed to slide pretty easily. figured maybe it was in a bind going through the floor. I set about putting the old cable back in, and once I got it in, the shifter barely wanted to move.... I had come across this before, and never figured it out, so it got me thinking. I tried a few cable adjustments, and nothing worked. I was frustrated beyond belief, I couldn't even put it in park and barely pull it into drive.... the one thing tha had been a constant throughout it's time with me, was the fact that I was never able to re-start the car in neutral, as the lockout mechanism had been out of adjustment or something to that effect, so I decided to take the entire thing out, get the shifter working again, and go back to it.... low and behold, just taking that out resulted in free and proper movement of the shifter! it even shifted gears properly again! I'm now starting to think that I may have 2 rebuilt 700r4's at the shop tucked away, that might be good after all! trans #7 is still in the car to this very moment, even if the electrical gremlins have killed that battery right here in the driveway.....

I was going to ask if you figured out why this thing is eating trannys like a budding p*rn star.

As lame as the 700r4 is it's not horribly unreliable IF you manage to get all of the linkages adjusted exactly right.......IF!!!

I've been saying that I'd start a thread on this for awhile, and maybe it'll help me get motivated... those of you that know about this car, know why I need motivation. For the rest, grab your favorite beverage, I know I need one.....

I bought this car a couple of years ago, at an estate auction, and after looking for years, I finally had one f my dream cars in my possesion. I need to remind all of you: nightmares are dreams too.....
The car had been sitting in a backyard for about 4 years, mostly untouched, and had started blending into the background...
(the day I picked it up...)

took it home, and after a power washing, it looked less like what a cat would cough up...

I don’t post much here because I mostly enjoy reading and learning but I want to say, DON’T give up on the beautiful car!
I own one (85 GP) and I will not even entertain the idea of parting with it, as I have kept it original at almost 95% mint condition for years!
I will be looking forward to reading and watching photos of your progress: Nothing worth anything Comes Easy

I don't plan on giving it up now, to much blood, sweat and tears have gone into it, and more to come, I'm sure (probably some chest pains caused by him as well!

). I'll be posting more either tonight, or in the next couple days, as the honey-do list comes first.....:owned:

Being that I have more pics in my phone than I have on my computer, I've been kinda putting this off... I'll try to get back up to speed as quickly as I can. IMG_20170625_104607082.jpg IMG_20170625_104607082.jpg IMG_20170618_143041511.jpg

And so on.... All told, there were patches on both bottom sides of the roof, top of the roof behind the t-tops, upper windshield frame under the chrome top trim, couple smaller around the rear window, and one in front and below the driver's side quarter window, along with several blossoms that were ground/ sanded and filled.....

I'm not a body man, and don't have a lot of patience for it, and I know this will never win any trophies, and I'm fine with that. This one is a driver, so I make no excuses for poor prep, or flair on this car, so bear with me on this!
