Just finished. It drives great but was a PITA. I had to build everything. Motor mounts, transmission X member, Exhaust, drive shaft, even the brackets to use the nissan PS pump on the Chevy engine. :blam:

Came out nice. I've played with a couple earlier Zs with SBC swaps. They are a ton of fun to drive. Those Z31s always felt a bit underpowered. Should be just about right now 🙂 .

Awesome. I've seen some jaguars with SBC's in them too and they seem to run really nice. I always wanted to drop a 307-455 olds with a toronado drivetrain in my cutlass ciera, which would probably make a nice sleeper.

It's hilarious to start it up and drive away from a group of guys at a gas station. It's got enought cam and exhaust note that the V8 is VERY evident. The looks are worth it all. The engine is a 1968 corvette 350 with a few add on pieces. It's kinda quick, not fast. With 391 gears and a turbo 350, the top end speed is not all that but it gets there quick.

I like v8s and all that but they have no place in japanes cars. I wanna know why you chose to put a v8 in a japanse car? Nissan makes amazing motors you could of easily dropped in with little to no mods like the rb26 or sr20.You could have even put the twin turbo v6 from the newer 300zx's. My main question is why buy a japanise car if you plan to put a v8 in it when you could have bought a camaro and let some one who really loves those cars own it and put a nissan motor in it?

I may come off as a bit rude so sorry but I'm sick of seeing v8's jammed in everything.

The v8 is just the way of the future with gas prices climbing we need to burn more fuel off faster so we can stop polution quicker.

that is true. I have a 350 in my garage I'm gonna put in my protege instead a 4 cylinder so I can get lower MPG because MPG is like golf scores right? the lower the better?

Rude, Smart *ss, sometimes it hard to tell the difference. I don't feel that it needs an explanation but anyway. The car had 200,000 miles on the engine and transmission so they were barely running. I pretty much saved the car from the scrapper. I had the engine and transmission so I decided to put it in there. If I'd wanted a ricer I would go buy a Neon or Honda with a 1.1L engine and put a 6" muffler on it so it would sound like it was actually going somewhere. Actually I have a beater Tercel I guess I could throw a fart can muffler on that and a wing............... :puke:

I'd rather see V8s than 4 or 6 cylinders. Atleast V8s dont sound like weed eaters  Either way this is a cool project my friends uncle had a blown 350 in his yellow 80s RX7. The first thing he did when he got it was scrap the junk rotary engine......oh boy I said it, sh*ts getting real

I can understand where you're coming from to an extent but don't really agree. I've got quite a bit of Nissan/Datsun experience and can understand where 86 Grand prix is coming from too. The Z31s weren't really remarkable performers to begin with. They weighed close to what a Gbody weighs and only had about 160hp. The VG30 was tough, durable, and torquey but didn't get great mpg -- essentially, it was an outstanding truck engine. I can totally understand the concept of doing a V8 swap to get twice the HP/TQ. I would expect that if it had an overdrive behind it the mpg would be close to that of the Nissan drivetrain. Why not choose an SR or RB? Because they are an expensive swap. There's also a geographical component. In my part of the country these cars are far from rare and not generally desirable. I do understand that in other areas they are much more of a novelty and could be considered collectable. To me, no crime has been committed. It looks like a really clean swap...and I'd take a clean SBC swap over a hacked SR swap any day of the week.
