I'm looking at a 93 Z28 with a LT1 engine with about 145K on it, i would typically look elseware but the car seems to be regularly maintained well so what im wondering is this a reasonable mileage for this engine?

thats REAL low mileage fir a 93, any motor will last if taken care of, my papa got 200k on his 00 lt1

well in the year 2000 that would have been an LS1 which is an aluminum block with more power but generally the aluminum blocks were awesome but durability was sometimes a problem. On the other hand the LT1 is a typical cast engine so as long as it hasn't been beaten on i figure it should have some serious life left in it, another cool part is it has the optional 6 speed standard, not too common

its in a tahoe. lol one is a 1999 and the other is a 2000, but they both have vortech 5700's

Just be careful of the distributor as they tend to be problematic. Replacing it is no small feat and quite pricey. Also remember that the 90's were one of the worst time periods in terms of GM build quality. The interiors are made of very poor quality plastics that tend to crack and break. They are fun cars when they work right, but just understand the limitations.

o ya aren't the distributors underneath the engine on these LT1's?

No, but they are on the timing cover and driven off the timing chain. It's called "Optispark", if you wish to Google it and do a bit of research.

I just recently sold my 95 caprice with the lt1, with 171k miles and would still roast the rears without hesitating! 😛

the optispark is behind the waterpump, and yes, is a royal pain in the arse to change....

I'd have to agree on the quality issue with early '90's GM products. I had a beautiful '92 Olds Cutlass Supreme International. When all was well it was great to drive. But when things started to go wrong, they went way wrong! I eventually traded it in on a '99 Saturn SL2... best car I've ever owned. I wish that I still had it.

like everyone else said, opti-spark is really the only flaw. headers and TB really wake them cars up too!
