I put a Hurst ratchet shifter in my 79 Bu. If I had it to over (and someday I will), I would put an 1/8" aluminum plate or something similar under the tunnel where the shifter mounts and bolt it together. (Like a tunnel sandwich) This will stiffen the floor under the shifter and keep it from flexing when you pull a gear. Also, make sure the new shift cable doesn't have any tight loops or bends. It make the shift hard and can wear or break the cable prematurely.

I have a Hurst V matic 3 in my Cutlass, had a Vmatic 2 prior. You'll likely have to remove the stock shifter brackets. If it helps, here are pics of mine installed into a monte console in my Cutlass. Follow the steps in the instructions and it's pretty straightforward.

That looks awesome, the rear bolts line up with the rear of the shifter it’s the front set that don’t even line up on the bracket I have.and how do you support the front of the console, only one screw hole on the top of the shifter.i thought it was a simple swap lol

Thanks man. The front of the console has a stock bracket that is vertical. It bolts up to the inside front edge of the breadbox area. The original mounting was modified to make the Hurst work. My shifter is mounted directly to the floor, and the plastic shifter plate is cutout to fit properly.

This is how I mounted a Quicksilver in my Malibu. I bought the front bracket from Mikes Montes. Its for a console with no shifter. The back console mount also came from Mikes and its just a standard console bracket. The shifter bracket I made. I used a piece of thin cardboard to mock it up and then made it out of 16ga steel. Hardest part was getting the height right so the shifter ended up in the right place.
Before you put everything back together make sure you dont forget to mount the micro switches for the reverse lights and run a wire for the indicator light. I realized I didnt do that AFTER I put the carpet in and the seats were bolted down. It was a DUH moment.
You'll also have to slot your floor and the front bracket to get the correct angle for the shifter cable.
