Alternator Conversion

What color wires are in the harness and does the harness have the terminals labeled P, F, L, S?
I'm not familiar with that connector. But if you look at the alternator each terminal should have a letter next to it. there should be a P, F, L, S.
L goes to the charge indicator and needs the resistor, S can go to the battery or just down to the + terminal on the alternator. The harness should have a brown wire at L and a red wire at S.
F is the field terminal and and P is the stator. you will not need either of those. I

The brown wire at terminal L tells the alt when to turn on.
The red wire at terminal S measures system voltage for the regulator.

Are you referring to the heavier red lead coming from the starter? On my car, I have that one disconnected, but ran a heavier 4 ga. positive lead directly from the positive battery terminal to the back of the alternator lug.
I used the same type adapter with resistor (but the AC Delco version) directly plugged into the stock alternator plug.
it would be beneficial to use the heavier 4 ga. gauge wire instead of the usual 8-10 ga. wire.
