If your into improving your time at the track...Then hell yes they are worth it!!!! 10 lbs of spinning weight + a tenth in the quarter mile..... I have some and like them... 8)

No way aluminum drums are going to reduce your ET's by a tenth. If that were true aluminum wheels would be worth almost a full second over steels and we all know that ain't true.

I put a set on my car and noticed no difference in braking or acceleration, nor did I expect to.
DoubleV,
No disrespect here, but talk to racers and they will all say 10 lbs of spinning weight = a tenth...Why don't you take your car to the track, post your numbers with steel drums and then post them with the aluminum ones...No 8) t to beat you up, but your theory in incorrect my friend...Only saying

Yeah , I fat fingered the 0. 😳 Added them to the original post.
I stand by the rest of the post.

Doublev is more right his call, but I will also submit there is no way possible for there to be a rotating mass effect "rule of thumb".

I know this is not a clean example , which is why there can be no easy rule too many varibles , but you should get the point.

If I remove 1# of weight from each of the following components , you are saying each will remove the equivalent of 8# ? No way!

Rear axle
Rear drum
Rear rim
Rear tire

Hell i didnt know this was going to turn out to be a fight lol

But I don't have a theory. I know my aluminum wheels I had on my car ( along with the aluminum drums I swapped in at the same time ) made no seat of the pants difference, but I know it would've been worth a tenth or two at the track, but if you're saying 10 lbs of spinning weight = a tenth, than I would've dropped like .5 ( I don't remember the exact weight difference ). That doesn't seem excessive to you? It certainly does to me. I've never heard anyone ever brag about major ET reductions just from wheel weight. I can only deduce there is a reason for that.

Here's a link that shows some tests between different wheel weights; http://www.carcraft.com/projectbuild/11 ... index.html

No one's fighting. There's just some disagreement on the 'numbers'.

Or in some cases agreeing violently.

I think you drag racers get frustrated with no place to go after a short 1/4 mile....you need to learn to turn left at the end of the 1/4 mile and then you get to do it all over again...

Na, you are just dizzy from never doing it RIGHT.
