How rare are these, and what did they come on? I just picked up a pair for $50. What's up with the counter weight things on em? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

The aluminum drums are still available new, so not rare but you did get a good deal. I'm thinking that a set of the new drums probably cost around 200 quid..

One of the cars that had alumni drums from the factory were the Turbo Regals. I'm sure others will chime in with other applications..

AL drums came on non G80 positraction cars. The only positraction car that got AL drums was the GNX.

AL drums are light and being a little thicker than iron, they help to keep 275 wide rear tires off the frame. They are more fragile than Iron. DO NOT do power brake burnouts with them. The Iron lining will crack all to hell and render them junk.

I don't think they are still available. 10 years ago when somebody listed AL drums for sale, they were actually selling cast iron. I can't imagine someone found a stash of them or is now reproducing them.

Years back when I wanted to replace the drums, they were no longer available.
I have passed up a few sets at the junkyard. I recall seeing them on an earlier A/G-body Malibu and on a few F-body cars. My friend has a pair on his Cutlass Cruiser.

I like the aluminum drums for 3 reasons, they dissipate heat quicker, being lighter your suspension reacts quicker and you have less rotating weight which makes it easier on the brakes...
