I am running the t -5 with a hydrolic clutch and a mc kleod twin disc . I cut the factory trans mount offn the cross member and turned it over and shortened it by about 1 inch. I built a pedal *ss. by cutting my regal one up a bit and grafting a 90's camaro pedal *ss. I then doubled up my fire wall so that I could mount my clutch master. |The hard part is getting the angle exact, take you're time. At first I used a stock camaro clutch master and slave but kept melting the slave cylinder and breaking masters so I now run A mc kleod master cylinder for a 95 lt1 style camaro and a internal slave aslo available from you geussed it mcleod. now the real hard part because you have a two piece rear main motor is finding a small fly wheel they are available still from gm perfomance. If you go with the twin disc they come with a fly wheel and the drive shaft that fits is from a disco machine camaro fire bird etc you know late 70' s early eighties good luck if you need to know any thing else you may email me direct [email protected] good luck

Thanks guys - it's a Hurst Competitiion Plus shifter - they are discontinued, but I bought mine new on ebay not too long ago). I had an offset welded into the handle to centre it in the Monte console.

oh yes thats another thing I think it's best to use the factory bell housing with the t 5 because if you use a bell housing for other 4 or 5 speeds the trans will lean and then you will have to cut and weld the shifter

I am using a factory T5 canted F-body bellhousing - this offset was for cosmetic reasons so that the shifter sat nicely in the console. The stock T5 shifter location is too far towards the driver for a G-body console:

The problem you mention is if you use a standard "straight up" bellhousing (ie. g-body 606) with an F-body T5, which was designed to be tilted 17' to the driver:

....if you do this, you'll also have to modify the crossmember mounting pad:

hmmm wierd my car was a bench car so I geuss I never ran into that problem but I sure love diving it as a standard. I did the swap like five years ago you ?

Ya, with bench it definitely wouldn't be a problem. Other people have rotated the console to get around this, but my 85 has the cubby ashtray up front so you can't do that.

I just did the swap this past winter... should have done it earlier! 8)

i'd like to find all those factory manual trans. interior console pieces betwee the seats up to the dash.

alright, I'm back with another quick question. Are all T5's the same??? Do F Body's with the V6 use a T5? Also what about.....gulp..... 😳 mustangs? Same transmission?

That's how the ashtray was on all pre-86 Monte's (and likely Malibu's) with a console.

In short, no 🙂 S-10's have a shorter tailshaft, V8 transmissions have a different input shaft with more splines (stay away from V6 models), and T5's used in other manufacturers cars (ie. Mustang) have completely different cases/bellhousings/input shafts. You want to get a T5 from a V8 F-body, preferably the World Class models which started in 88.
