another transmission sway question manual

How hard is it to make the swap from an automatic to manual? Is it something you could attempt for the first time or would you need to find someone to help who's done it before?
 
I cant actually say since this will be my first time also. But I've been watching all the forums and there seems to be alot of good info. It don't look like it'll be too outragous.
 
Just the thought of so much v8 power being downshifted on the freeway gives me chills 🙂 I don't know if I'll ever do it with my car though.
 
Yeah, it sounds like alot of fun. With that I almost feel compeled to have to do it. :twisted:

If you are mechanically inclined and do your research prior to, it's not that bad. This was the first time I had swapped in a standard transmission and I knew little to nothing about standard transmissions prior to this, but I also have swapped the engine/trans before and do all my own work for the most part.
 
I did mine with hydrolics with no help from any one . People I knew said it couldn't even be done . I never had the help of any forums however with a little time and knowledge was able to do it in my drive way with common tools excuding the welder required for trans crossmember and pedal *ss mod.s
 
Does anybody know how much power a world class 5-speed from v8 camaro can take. I've heard they can't take much and the ones that came in mustangs are real stout. I know the aftermarket has addressed this problem some what ,but if I can put one together from the junkyard for cheaper that can handle 500+ hp that would suit me.[/quote]
 
never mind. I searched online and found the answer to my own question. Tremec TKO 5-speed is the only thing that can handle the power I want to throw at it. I guess I'll have to win the lottery to be able to afford everything I want to do to my bu 🙁

Actually, as far as the Mustang trannys, I had a buddy with a 91 LX 5.0. Those trannys break, alot. I almost forgot about it until the other day. I've been thinking a T56 alot more but there pretty speendy.
 
The transmission in my S10 is going out and I've decided that I need to shift my own gears in the bu. So tomorrow I'm going to take my malibu to the jobsite for one last drive as an automatic. Unfortunately I have a feeling it will be parked next to the el camino for some time until the $$$ comes around....I'm leading toward a five but I could easly change to a 6.... I'm kind of ok with that because it will give me time to take care of other cheaper things.....I'll probable keep this post alive for awhile as I'm sure I'll have questions...
