another transmission sway question manual

I haven't even started yet and I already have some questions. I know of an el camino in a junkyard with a stick and I think it's complete.
1. What parts do I need to get off it?
2. what does it take to go from a 4-speed to a 5-speed tko with mechanical linkage

I can't completely help you since I've never done it myself. But I can tell you what I've been told. If you plan on using a mechanical style clutch, the original style the Elk would have you'll need it all. Bellhousing, flywheel, clutch fork, the shifter and all the linkage, pedals, probably crossmember and possibly driveshaft. If you plan on using a newer style 5 spd most of them use a hydraulic clutch, therefore you'll need a different style bellhousing for it. I've been told for this you can use a V8 F Body (camaro) one. Again I'm not exactly sure this is just what I've gathered so far. Someone else on here should be able to help you a little more with the specific's. Anyone? But if you did find an original complete manual trans setup. That's a pretty rare find and some people would kill for that fork. Pick it all up. Even if you don't end up using it I'll guarantee someone else will.

I run a New Process MY6. Which is a A-833 OD. I had a ST-10 for two years and it stunk. I realize I'll need an upgrade someday if its ever quick, but for right now I'm back with the MY6. The car itself has had its ups and downs. Started life as a 6, then a ran a 73 Buick 350, then a 69 Buick 350 with a mild cam, then a borrowed SBC 383, and now a stock 72 SBC. The MY6 has a 3.00 first gear and forth is OD, 0.76 I think. With my 3.90 rear, this is a great street trans. I've enclosed a pic of one. The input shaft housings need machined down to fit a normal bell, and the shift mount has to be moved forward if you want it in the stock G body area, but otherwise its a snap. The trans mount and rear yoke are the same as a TH350. The back-up light switch is on the trans. Anyway, that trans makes for a cheap swap. Good luck on your attempt!
