Any New Yorkers here? Car insurance question

Unfortunately Parents think like insurance companies. Who's most likely to go off on a joyride with a carload of friends, beer, and weed and get into some deep sh*t? You, the single male under 25. Unfair, but statistics are on their side. I told both my Kids when they got their licenses to just not drive for a year, the insurance companies would love them and drop the rates. Worked great with one, not the other.

Have a question, you list your car as a T-Type but it has an Olds 307? Is it a real T-Type / Turbo T or just a regular Regal with badging added? If the car is really a TT maybe this is why they are salivating so much, they look at as a "rare" performance car, and you being young, naturally you're going to act stupid in it. As Bonnewagon stated, unfair but that's how you're going to be characterized.

Point is maybe if it's a regular Regal the rate will be a little less. The crazy thing is if something happens to you're car they're not going to pay anything on it, because it's an OLD CAR & not the "rare" car they drooled about when signing you up. Another question is what is the value they're going to put on it?

It's a real T Type just with the stock Olds 307. No V6 Turbo. They made a few T Types with the Olds 307. Maybe I should stress that when I talk to someone haha. I'm playing it safe when I'm driving lol especially with just liability until I can afford more coverage. I'm not sure, gonna call these last 4 companies tomorrow and see what happens!

I have the same car and even thought I only have limited liability I have the better of the choices and I pay w/progressive over $500 every 6 months because I do not own a garage to put it in for the classic coverage.

So from reading all your quotes given and then taking the course by the time you are 25 it will drop down a a manageable payment.

It's just because we live in NY. It's just how it is. The best thing is to find a broker that will work for you and always try and get you in the best company.

At this time you are categorized as "high risk" because you are young so you are in a mandated pool selection. The brokers get $5.00 per payment that is made monthly so it just might be worth the trouble going thru one that is local to you.

That's what I did with my camaro's for years.

And my cutlass is listed as a sedan on my reg.

GOD LUCK!

Didn't know that, o.k. Well, if you can, stress it but then it's a catch-22 on the "what's it worth / what's the payout" going to be if something happens and the company totals it. That's the main rub; you may be the safest person out there but you have to worried about the idiots.

There's not going to be any substantial pay-out if something does happen, he's just looking at basic liability. I had the same problem when I got my license (living in NY). I paid the ridiculous rates for a few years and then I solved the problem by moving out of NY.

Looks like my cars gonna stay the way it is for a longgggggggggg time. Just had my broker do all my insurance stuff $311/mo at the lowest with a little under $600 down and that's after I pay the $50 for the 6hr defensive driving class. Screw you New York.

Sorry to hear. If you have an alarm or garage it should also bring down the insurance and never stop looking. once you are on the books with insurance things might change quickly for you

It's all good man. It does have a alarm (factory one) but it's broken, I'll mention that to the broker. Have a garage but it's way to small and my driveways a pain in the *ss too lol. But he said it's so much because how NY has the 3 year inexperienced driver thing (forgot what they call it) that's a fortune and how the car isn't 'safe' because no ABS or airbags lol. Cars back then weren't made of plastic like nowadays when the whole car crumples if you get hit, you know?

I mean the car does have a lot of miles on it but it was well maintained and it's only a 307 so there's only so much I can do to it anyway. Still a great car and all but you gotta do what you gotta do! Maybe when it drops in 3 years (If I have a good clean driving records) I'll drop a 350 in it if the frame is good. As long as I'm driving it now I'm happy.

They do not need to know what a PIA getting the car into the garage is and they do not need to know that the alarm isn't functioning right now(get that fixed!) it will make a difference. And yes the rates are high but in time your broker can re- shuffle the deck and throw you into another company because they ALL have to accept a certain % of high risk drivers. after 6 months check around again.

Please keep driving the car.. if you let her sit she will rot . I say start collecting items that you want to do with the car and store them till you are ready to lay it up. But first get those rear gears done when you can. That will give you your MOST improvement and tell the guy eventually you will be swapping to a 350 olds just in case there is something "extra" that they can do for you.

GO to the car shows out there and if you can the ones in the Bronx. those guys have the hook ups! They do it faster than anyone i have seen and again i have no complaints about the work i had done with all of them

Keep us posted!

Michele
