Suggestion- if you want more power, simply find the biggest engine available for your year, and put it in. They had 454s then. Make it stock like it came that way from the factory. Best of both worlds. Or a 350 SBC if it's easier. You'll have 10 times more fun, can call it a stock 350 or 454, and then replace the rear end once you tear it up. 🙂I’m in a different boat. My Malibu is a 229 v6 car that I want to do an engine swap in. However the car is untouched and runs well. I don’t want to take it apart until I’m sure there’ll be no downtime due to funds. Because it’s so nice to jump in and drive to work. Though I do feel a LITTLE guilty ripping apart an unmolested car.
Well I have a 454 that is in my 70 ss that will be coming out during its restoration and going in. I’m trying to use as much from that car to do the swap, but I know I’ll still need a radiator, exhaust, rear end parts and some brackets.Suggestion- if you want more power, simply find the biggest engine available for your year, and put it in. It's only original once. But once you step over that line, there's no going back. It's all in the plan, whichever you come up with. Plan it in advance, then tweak the plan until you're happy, then go for it. Whichever way you're headed. Good luck, we're all counting on you...
It is an on-going struggle to keep it stock sometimes. SO easy to say, hey, I got this 455 on a stand over here doing nothing... yet knowing you can get blown away at a stop light by a go-kart leaving it stock...you just have to keep it all in perspective.I wish I had the restraint sometimes, would be cheaper and I’d have a lot more spare time.
If I ever had a lower mile original car, depending on what it is I guess, I’d have no problem keeping it stock and just cruising as is.
Self-inflicted suck...my 1980 442 is all stock so I guess I suck
