dont do it, they are abitch to maintain and not worth dropping money into. im still huge into imports, i have a 91 civic si supercharged as well as my lowrider and an 07 Mitsubishi Outlander, so im super diverse in my ride choices.

you are ayoung guy, so what i would suggest is maybe go with a early 90's 240sx with an sr20 in it. cheap, somewhat reliable and easy as hell to maintain and get parts for.

ive not done much research on all nissans, but did the 240sx come with a performance engine? turbo, higher output motor, ect?

well no, in the US they didnt actually come turbo, but the sr20 motor is turbo and is from the 180sx i believe which is the japanese version of the 240. in canada, we drive right hand drives all over here so i see them daily and have even owned a right hand drive mr2 turbo from japan. basically what im saying is, is that you should be able to find one for sale that has the sr20 motor that has been swapped in it. there arent many where im from that dont have the turbo motor.

The 180sx was a ca18det 240sx ka24e and ka24de depending the year.Nissan car name with number means the engine size 180 1.8 200 2.0 240 2.4 etc etc.The 240sx never came stock turbo the 180sx 200sx and silvia did but we never got them in north america. The z31 is a ok car but handling and power its better to buy something else. The irs most nissan cars used is a floating irs which rides great but handles like crap. The sr20 has a crappy head design they always crack and or blow the head gasket easy. The ca20de is a better engine slap a turbo on it.Or use a rb25det.

Go for a S13 or S14 240sx (1989-1998). Yes, they come with the KA24DE and FS5W71C 5 speed, but that's not a bad thing! The KA is an incredible little engine (I LOVE the one in my Frontier!). It has a forged crank, forged rods, piston oil squirters, main cap bridge, gerotor oil pump, high nickel block, timing chain (no belt!), solid lifter cam(s), and 12 or 16 valves (depending on if it's an E or a DE). I know someone who has a 315 WHP KA with a GT28RS turbo in an S13 and loves it. Plus, the S13 has perfect weight distribution and a much better rear suspension than the Z31 you are looking at. KA turbo kits are not that uncommon, and you could cobble one together for a reasonable price. Trust me, the VG30ET in the Z31 has nothing on the KA when you modify it. There are far more parts for the KA than the single cam VG. The SR is also a good little engine, but it is not cheap to swap it in.

you guys are right and the sr motor definitely isnt cheap which is why i said to find one with it already swapped. youd be very hard pressed to find an rb25 at all let alone even comparable in price with the sr20. rb25 is a twin turbo setup, which in the end is waaaay more costly, but definitely worth it in the end if you got money...

The thing about the RB25 is that it is not that powerful in stock form, but it is expensive and heavy. Being an inline six, it puts more weight in front of the front axle centerline and will hurt the handling. If I were going to do an expensive swap, I would use an aluminum LSX and a 6 speed instead. The engine would be shorter and it has been done, plenty of times. I still have a soft spot for the KA, but given the choice, I would go LSX because it would be more reliable at the same power level.
