Are 14" rims to small to look good on a olds G body?

Yes, they are WAAAY too small to look right on these cars. On a beater, you run whatever is cheap, but for a car where aesthetics matter, they should be no smaller than a 15x7 with a 235 60 15 on them.

You are dead *ss wrong sir! I had 14s on my first Cutlass and they looked good. I still wish I could find it.

The difference in size between 14 and 15 is so small (1" TOTAL) that you can't tell the difference without reading tire size. 14's look good with the right tires on it. I have 195/70's on the front of my car (came with them) and they are too short... The 205 70's on the back are better but still a little short. A 225/70 14 would look better. Conversely a 225/60 or 65 would be fine for a 15" You'd never be able to tell them apart without reading the size or them being next to each-other.

I agree. Your not going to be able to tell much difference visually between a 14" and 15" rim. If you have the 14" rims, I wouldn't lose any sleep over using them.

My brother's '81 with 14" rims:

And on my '87:

I like larger rims but I don't think the stock 14's look bad...

IMO 14" factory ralleys look good with the right tires. The white Cutlass above looks good. I have seen 205/70/14s (25.4 tall) on the front with 245/60/14s (25.6 tall) on the back give it a decent performance look. I have also seen 225/70/14s all the way around that looked decent. Yes they are on the small side for performance especially with the size of the car but it does work and can look decent. That said the 15" ralleys look better and give much better tire options. I would use 14" ralleys if I had them but I would not buy them. I would buy 15 or 16" factory wheels or 17s if you are ok with aftermarket wheels.

I agree. Although I wouldn't buy 16" wheels either. You can get tires for them but the selection is getting very thin. Kind of like the 14" wheels.

17" wheels are the new 15's. :) I think your safe with either a 15" wheel for tire selection or jumping to a 17" rim.

Bern,

I am running the original 14" SSIII rallys on my '86 with 225/70 tires - I went this route because at the time I wasn't ready to replace with different wheels (couldn't decide) and needed tires. I also went that route with the taller tires because I was thinking of budget, mileage /engine rpm at highway speeds, filling out the wheel-wells... They are raised white letter tires, the wheels are in excellent shape and it looks pretty decent. At the time I looked on eBay and someone was selling a set of 15x7 and 15x8s for around $130 ea. but as others said, 14 to 15 is nothing except it gives you a little better tire size choice. I do get compliments on them and the car. Once these tires wear out I'm moving to 16 or 17" TTIIs.

As far as the aluminum "rally", though they're rare the $125 ea is somewhat high - I think you can do better than that. I had a set of silver ones my '81 Calais and always wanted another set. I found a set for $280. I have to get lugs & clean them up but still beats $500!! Unless these are NOS perfect, come with perfect lugs and the chrome on the bolt-on caps and lugs are perfect then I would talk them down. These also came on the Hurst/Olds, want to say 79 ~ 80, and were gold.

In the end, it's as others said, it's what looks good to you that counts the most. 8)
